To support DANCECleveland's per<strong>for</strong>mances, residency, and educational activities. Companies to be presented<br />

may include Jessica Lang Dance, Ballet Biaritz, Monica Bill Barnes, and Dance Theater of Harlem. Per<strong>for</strong>mances<br />

will be accompanied by master classes <strong>for</strong> high school, pre-professional, and professional dancers. In addition,<br />

artists will participate in community appearances, pre-per<strong>for</strong>mance chats, and post-per<strong>for</strong>mance question-andanswer<br />

sessions. DANCECleveland also will continue its early childhood literacy and movement program, Read to<br />

LearnDance to Move, that helps pre-school and kindergarten children improve <strong>the</strong>ir reading readiness and<br />

embrace creative movement.<br />

Columbia College Chicago<br />

$30,000 Chicago, IL<br />

To support dance presentations and residencies at The Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago. Activities will<br />

include contemporary dance per<strong>for</strong>mances, audience and community engagement programs, and teaching<br />

residencies. Artists to be presented may include Cynthia Oliver's COCo Dance Theatre, Doug Varone and<br />

Dancers, and Bebe Miller Company. The companies will be in residence <strong>for</strong> at least one week to per<strong>for</strong>m and to<br />

conduct audience and community engagement activities such as in-school and after-school classes and<br />

workshops, teen-related programs, community-based workshops, master classes <strong>for</strong> Columbia College Chicago<br />

students, lecture-demonstrations, preview per<strong>for</strong>mances, film screenings, gallery installations, panel<br />

discussions, open rehearsals, and pre- and post-per<strong>for</strong>mance conversations.<br />

Contemporary Dance Theater, Inc. (aka Contemporary Dance Theater)<br />

$10,000 Cincinnati, OH<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> presentation of Contemporary Dance Theater's 44th and 45th Guest Artist Series. Artists to be<br />

presented may include The Seldoms. Local, adjudicated choreographers also will present <strong>the</strong>ir work at <strong>the</strong> Area<br />

Choreographers Festival. In addition to per<strong>for</strong>mances, <strong>the</strong> companies will share a variety of activities with <strong>the</strong><br />

community such as classes, lectures, workshops, and receptions. Activities <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> traveling companies will be<br />

tailored to <strong>the</strong> contextual nature of <strong>the</strong> per<strong>for</strong>mances and will be presented to <strong>the</strong> general public, grade school<br />

children, per<strong>for</strong>ming arts students, and university students. The per<strong>for</strong>mances will take place in <strong>the</strong> Aronoff<br />

Center <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> in Cincinnati, in partnership with <strong>the</strong> Cincinnati <strong>Arts</strong> Association.<br />

CounterPulse<br />

$20,000 San Francisco, CA<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> Artist Residency and Commissioning (ARC) Program. The program identifies local emerging and<br />

mid-career choreographers whose work is ready to be appreciated by a larger audience and provides space and<br />

support <strong>for</strong> those artists to create new works. The ARC Program supports as many as three, five-month<br />

residencies during which artists will create and per<strong>for</strong>m new works. ARC provides three annual residency tracks<br />

<strong>for</strong> dance and per<strong>for</strong>ming artists: Edge, focusing on disruptive contemporary work; Per<strong>for</strong>ming Diaspora,<br />

focusing on culturally specific work on <strong>the</strong> edge of tradition; and Combustible, focusing on innovative and<br />

technologically engaged work. Activities include work-in-progress showings where residents and <strong>the</strong> public<br />

provide feedback on <strong>the</strong> work, as well as a mentor <strong>for</strong> each resident artist. After <strong>the</strong> residency period, ARC may<br />

offer services such as fiscal sponsorship, and technical and administrative support.<br />

Cuyahoga Community College Foundation<br />

$20,000 Cleveland, OH<br />

To support artists fees <strong>for</strong> per<strong>for</strong>mances and residency activities of Dance Theatre of Harlem. Tri-C Presents and<br />

DANCECleveland will co-present <strong>the</strong> company. Per<strong>for</strong>mances will include works by choreographers Dianne<br />

McIntyre and Francesca Harper. Residency activities may include an open rehearsal <strong>for</strong> area students, a workout<br />

training session <strong>for</strong> high school athletes, a virtual conversation on writing about dance with DTH Artistic Director<br />

Some details of <strong>the</strong> projects listed are subject to change, contingent upon prior <strong>Arts</strong> <strong>Endowment</strong> approval. In<strong>for</strong>mation is current as of<br />
