African Film Festival (aka African Film Festival, AFF)<br />

$10,000 New York, NY<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> 24th New York African Film Festival and touring program. Held in <strong>the</strong> spring, <strong>the</strong> festival<br />

showcases contemporary and classic films from Africa and <strong>the</strong> African diaspora. Screenings will be<br />

supplemented by filmmaker discussions and cultural events celebrating African culture. The touring program will<br />

highlight film selections from <strong>the</strong> 23rd and 24th festival, and travel to cities such as Berkeley, Cali<strong>for</strong>nia; St.<br />

Louis, Missouri; and Tuscaloosa, Alabama.<br />

Anthology Film Archives (aka Anthology, AFA)<br />

$20,000 New York, NY<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> presentation of several curated film and video series. Anthology's exhibition program includes<br />

public screenings of independent and <strong>for</strong>eign films unlikely to have a commercial release, retrospectives and<br />

<strong>the</strong>med series, revivals of overlooked films, and in-person appearances from contemporary artists. The majority<br />

of films screened are U.S. premieres. Recent programming has included a retrospective of Stephanie Gray's<br />

Super-8mm films, a series on <strong>the</strong> avant-garde cinema of <strong>for</strong>mer Yugoslavia, and Aleksei German's final film<br />

"Hard to be a God."<br />

Art Institute of Chicago (aka The School of <strong>the</strong> Art Institute of Chicago) (On behalf of Gene Siskel Film Center)<br />

$10,000 Chicago, IL<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> Black Harvest Film Festival and related programming. Held in <strong>the</strong> summer, <strong>the</strong> festival presents<br />

works from emerging and established filmmakers that explore <strong>the</strong> contemporary black and African diaspora<br />

experience. Many of <strong>the</strong> films screened have limited distribution beyond <strong>the</strong> festival circuit. Through<br />

partnerships with Community Film Workshop and <strong>the</strong> Chicago Public Library, additional programming will<br />

include free family-oriented film screenings and discussions at neighborhood libraries, and master class<br />

opportunities <strong>for</strong> youth.<br />

Aspen Film (aka Aspen FIlm)<br />

$10,000 Aspen, CO<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> 26th Aspen Shortsfest. Dedicated to celebrating <strong>the</strong> art of short film, Aspen Film will present<br />

animated, live-action, and documentary shorts selected from a pool of thousands of entries from around <strong>the</strong><br />

world. The films are programmed <strong>the</strong>matically and associated events include panels, filmmaker roundtables, a<br />

master class, and free school programs. Screenings will take place in Aspen and at o<strong>the</strong>r locations within a 50-<br />

mile radius.<br />

Aurora Picture Show (aka Aurora)<br />

$15,000 Houston, TX<br />

To support a year-round curated series. Programs will feature film, video, new media, live cinematic<br />

per<strong>for</strong>mances, multi-plat<strong>for</strong>m works and installations from multidisciplinary or unconventional moving image<br />

artists. The series may include a retrospective from experimental animator Mary Ellen Bute, an installation from<br />

multimedia artist Eve-Lauryn Little Shell La Fountain, and a screening of works examining how moving image<br />

artists' relationships with media influence <strong>the</strong>ir personal and family history.<br />

Austin Film Society (aka Austin Film Society)<br />

$45,000 Austin, TX<br />
