Art in General, Inc. (aka Art in General)<br />

$40,000 Brooklyn, NY<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> New Commissions Program. The program will provide support <strong>for</strong> local and international artists<br />

to create new work. Selected artists will receive an artist fee, production budget, curatorial support, and access<br />

to equipment and technology culminating in an exhibition. Free public programming and online education<br />

initiatives will be prepared in conjunction with each artist's exhibition.<br />

Artists Alliance, Inc. (aka AAI)<br />

$25,000 New York, NY<br />

To support an exhibition program. Project activity will take place at <strong>the</strong> Cuchifritos Gallery in <strong>the</strong> Essex Street<br />

Market on New York's Lower East Side. Cuchifritos' curatorial program will provide exhibition opportunities <strong>for</strong><br />

emerging and underrepresented artists, while supporting <strong>the</strong> independent voices of curators seeking to address<br />

current concerns in contemporary art and society.<br />

Artpace, Inc. (aka Artpace San Antonio)<br />

$55,000 San Antonio, TX<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> International Artist-in-Residence program. Selected by guest curators, artists will produce and<br />

exhibit new work during a residency that will provide housing, work space, technical assistance, transportation<br />

costs, and a stipend. Artists will engage with audiences through introductory community ga<strong>the</strong>rings, artists'<br />

talks, exhibitions, adult education programming, and partnerships with San Antonio schools. Additionally, <strong>the</strong><br />

guest curators will present free public lectures.<br />

BURNAWAY Inc (aka BURNAWAY)<br />

$20,000 Atlanta, GA<br />

To support ef<strong>for</strong>ts to expand "Burnaway" magazine's editorial capacity and geographic reach. The expansion will<br />

help <strong>the</strong> magazine hire and better compensate more writers and artists to investigate a broad spectrum of<br />

topics to develop a wider readership of artists, curators, arts administrators, collectors, educators, students, and<br />

<strong>the</strong> public. Burnaway will help defray o<strong>the</strong>r costs such as a full-time editor, a part-time editorial and social media<br />

staff, and <strong>the</strong> maintenance of an online plat<strong>for</strong>m.<br />

Bard College<br />

$30,000 Annandale-Hudson, NY<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> exhibition "The Conditions of Being Art," and an accompanying publication. The exhibition will<br />

highlight and contextualize <strong>the</strong> groundbreaking work of two New York City galleries in <strong>the</strong> 1990s-<strong>the</strong> American<br />

Fine <strong>Arts</strong> Company and <strong>the</strong> Pat Hearn Gallery. Featuring works by artists such as Tom Burr, Mark Dion, Andrea<br />

Fraser, Renee Green, Mary Heilmann, Jutta Koe<strong>the</strong>r, Cady Noland, and Christian Philipp Muller, <strong>the</strong> exhibition<br />

will showcase how a new generation of artists employed social and institutional critiques in <strong>the</strong>ir work, and how<br />

<strong>the</strong> traditional notion of an art gallery was challenged, as <strong>the</strong>y were repurposed as concert halls, classrooms,<br />

social hot spots, and sites <strong>for</strong> social activism. The project will include public programming and production of a<br />

comprehensive catalogue published in collaboration with Dancing Foxes Press and <strong>the</strong> University of Chicago<br />

Press.<br />

Bronx Council on <strong>the</strong> <strong>Arts</strong>, Inc. (On behalf of Longwood Art Gallery)<br />

$20,000 Bronx, NY<br />

To support a series of exhibitions at <strong>the</strong> Longwood Art Gallery. The exhibitions will be complemented by a<br />

variety of public programs, including live per<strong>for</strong>mances, artist and curator talks, panel discussions, films, and<br />

readings. Planned exhibitions include a solo show featuring mixed media artist Wanda Raimundi-Ortiz, and two<br />
