Elaine Kaufman Cultural Center-Lucy Moses School <strong>for</strong> Music and Dance (aka Kaufman Music Center) (On<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> Ecstatic Music Festival at Merkin Concert Hall. Programs will focus on collaborations between<br />

two or more per<strong>for</strong>mers, ensembles, and/or composers, each working in a different musical genre.<br />

Collaborations will include Roomful of Teeth with indie rock musician Nick Zammuto and pop band San Fermin<br />

with <strong>the</strong> contemporary classical NOW Ensemble. Educational outreach activities may include live webcasts, ondemand<br />

streaming, and mini-residencies by artists <strong>for</strong> students in <strong>the</strong> Kaufman Music Center's Face <strong>the</strong> Music<br />

youth ensemble.<br />

Ensemble Music New Mexico (aka Chatter)<br />

$10,000 Albuquerque, NM<br />

To support per<strong>for</strong>mances by Chatter, a new music ensemble. Concerts include Chatter at <strong>the</strong> Albuquerque<br />

Museum in conjunction with current exhibitions, Chatter Varsity featuring school-aged musicians at <strong>the</strong> Las<br />

Puertas Event Center, and a community concert. Repertoire will include music by 20th- and 21st-century<br />

American composers as well as music from <strong>the</strong> standard repertoire. Chatter will create a pilot program<br />

establishing a resident string trio (David Felberg, violin; James Holland, cello; Shanti Randall, viola), which will<br />

increase Chatter's artistic development and artistic growth as a whole by beginning with a small, versatile,<br />

flexible resident trio.<br />

Florida International University<br />

$15,000 Miami, FL<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> Miami International GuitART Festival. Plans include concerts, educational lectures, panels,<br />

master classes, per<strong>for</strong>mance and composition competitions, and <strong>the</strong> commission of a new work by composer<br />

Carlos Rafael Rivera. The festival also will celebrate guitarist and composer Leo Brouwer with a tribute concert.<br />

Gateways Music Festival, Inc.<br />

$10,000 Rochester, NY<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> Gateways Music Festival. The festival celebrating <strong>the</strong> participation and contributions of classically<br />

trained musicians of African descent, will feature solo, chamber, and orchestral per<strong>for</strong>mances as well as a youth<br />

showcase. Musicians from across <strong>the</strong> country will participate and per<strong>for</strong>m at <strong>the</strong> Eastman Theatre on <strong>the</strong><br />

campus of <strong>the</strong> University of Rochester and in area churches.<br />

Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival Operating Corporation (aka Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival)<br />

$12,500 Southfield, MI<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> Shouse Chamber Music Institute, a professional training program. Designed to bridge <strong>the</strong> gap<br />

between graduate school and a professional per<strong>for</strong>ming career, <strong>the</strong> program involves emerging and preprofessional<br />

ensembles participating in coaching sessions, master classes, and per<strong>for</strong>mances. Past participating<br />

ensembles include Eighth Blackbird, and <strong>the</strong> Harlem, Jupiter, Pacifica, and Parker Quartets, among o<strong>the</strong>rs.<br />

Handel & Haydn Society<br />

$40,000 Boston, MA<br />

To support concert per<strong>for</strong>mances of Handel's oratorio "Semele," on period instruments with related educational<br />

activities. Last per<strong>for</strong>med by <strong>the</strong> society in 1999, <strong>the</strong> per<strong>for</strong>mance will be <strong>the</strong>ir first in its original un-staged<br />
