University of Utah<br />

$10,000 Salt Lake City, UT<br />

To support a residency by poet and novelist Sandra Cisneros, and associated outreach activities. Cisneros, who<br />

writes about <strong>the</strong> Latino experience, will lecture or engage in conversation about her artistic process at a free<br />

public event at <strong>the</strong> Rose Wagner Per<strong>for</strong>ming <strong>Arts</strong> Center in downtown Salt Lake City. The author will also work in<br />

conjunction with community partners to conduct outreach activity to underserved Salt Lake City students at<br />

local libraries.<br />

Utah Philharmonic Orchestra<br />

$10,000 Herriman, UT<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> Four String Festival, and associated outreach activities. Guest artists <strong>the</strong> Fry Street Quartet will<br />

conduct sectionals, group ensemble, master classes, and a side-by-side concert with festival participants, as well<br />

as per<strong>for</strong>m with <strong>the</strong> Utah Philharmonic Orchestra. Outreach activities <strong>for</strong> underserved youth from small, lowincome<br />

Utah communities will include a string clinic <strong>for</strong> school-age students.<br />

VSA Florida (aka VSAFL)<br />

$10,000 Tampa, FL<br />

To support per<strong>for</strong>mances by singer-songwriter and guitarist James Durbin, with related activities. An artist with<br />

Tourette's and Asperger's syndrome, Durbin will also conduct outreach activities in Tampa Bay and Tallahassee,<br />

including mini per<strong>for</strong>mances. He will share his story while conducting question-and-answer sessions with<br />

students with and without disabilities at public and private schools.<br />

VSA arts of Texas (aka VSA Texas)<br />

$10,000 Austin, TX<br />

To support Body Shift, a dance festival <strong>for</strong> people with and without disabilities. The festival, which will take place<br />

in Austin, Texas, will include workshops, facilitated conversations, and a free public per<strong>for</strong>mance by <strong>the</strong> Stopgap<br />

Dance Company, a British inclusive dance company. The workshops will include a methods and integrated dance<br />

class, as well as a teacher training workshop.<br />

Verb Ballets<br />

$10,000 Shaker Hts., OH<br />

To support a memory and dance project at assisted living facilities in Cleveland, Ohio. Guest artists, dancer and<br />

choreographer Diane McIntyre and African drummer Linda Thomas Jones, will collaborate with Verb Ballets<br />

dancers to conduct movement workshops, ga<strong>the</strong>ring <strong>the</strong> personal life stories of older adults as material to<br />

develop original dances. The dances will <strong>the</strong>n be per<strong>for</strong>med by Verb Ballets dancers and residents at each<br />

facility, as well as in public per<strong>for</strong>mance at <strong>the</strong> Verb Ballet studio.<br />

Vigorous Interventions in Ongoing Natural Settings, Inc. (aka VISIONS, Inc.)<br />

$10,000 Dorchester, MA<br />

To support a jazz concert series, and associated activities. The free jazz concerts at <strong>the</strong> Dudley Library in<br />

Roxbury, Massachusetts, will feature <strong>the</strong> Makanda Project, with potential guest artists Oliver Lake, Ricky Ford,<br />

Michael Gregory Jackson, and Eddie Allen. The concerts will have accompanying activities, such as music<br />
