To support Arte Publico Press in <strong>the</strong> publication and promotion of books of Latino fiction, poetry, and multigenre<br />

work. The press plans to publish titles by such authors as Daniel Chacon and Rolando Hinojosa, as well as a<br />

bilingual book by Jorge Argueta and an anthology of Afro-Latino poets. The books will be promoted at<br />

conferences and through social media, among o<strong>the</strong>r means.<br />

University of North Carolina at Wilmington<br />

$10,000 Wilmington, NC<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> publication and promotion of <strong>the</strong> journal "Ecotone" and related activities. Featuring writing and<br />

art that reimagines place, a planned issue will focus on <strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>me of craft and will explore artisanship of all<br />

kinds. Issues also will include illustrated excerpts of manuscripts by authors whose work is expected to be<br />

published at a later date through <strong>the</strong> journal's sister imprint, Lookout Books. The journal will be promoted at<br />

conferences, as well as through social media and <strong>the</strong> journal's website, among o<strong>the</strong>r means.<br />

University of Rochester (On behalf of Open Letter Books)<br />

$40,000 Rochester, NY<br />

To support Open Letter Books in <strong>the</strong> publication and promotion of books in translation. Planned books, which<br />

will be released in both print and electronic <strong>for</strong>mats and include titles from Argentina, Brazil, <strong>the</strong> Faroe Islands,<br />

France, Iceland, and South Korea, represent a range of perspectives and styles. Open Letter Books promotes its<br />

books through conferences, events, social media plat<strong>for</strong>ms, and through its "Three Percent" website, which<br />

includes a daily blog focused on international literature.<br />

University of Texas at Austin<br />

$10,000 Austin, TX<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> publication and promotion of books of Middle Eastern literature in translation. The Center <strong>for</strong><br />

Middle Eastern Studies plans to publish a title by Ibrahim al-Koni (Libya), as well as a graphic novel by Ahmed<br />

Nagy and illustrator Ayman Zorkany (Egypt). The books will be released in both print and electronic <strong>for</strong>mats, and<br />

a publicity campaign will be developed <strong>for</strong> each book.<br />

Wesleyan University (On behalf of Wesleyan University Press)<br />

$25,000 Middletown, CT<br />

To support Wesleyan University Press in <strong>the</strong> publication and promotion of books of poetry. The press will<br />

publish authors Kamau Brathwaite, Camille Dungy, Shane McCrae, Erin Moure, Evie Shockley, and Gina A<strong>the</strong>na<br />

Ulysse. Books will be accompanied by online reader companions, and will be promoted through author readings<br />

and workshops, social media, and <strong>the</strong> press's website, among o<strong>the</strong>r means.<br />

White Pine Inc. (aka White Pine Press)<br />

$10,000 Buffalo, NY<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> publication and promotion of books of poetry and prose, including work in translation. Planned<br />

titles include poetry collections by authors Kathleen McGookey, Joel Oppenheimer, and Ester Naomi Perguin<br />

(Holland). The books will be promoted through social media, catalogues and fliers, print and online<br />

advertisements, and at conferences.<br />
