songs from <strong>the</strong> 1930s and '40s. An additional public program is planned, "Welab," that will allow participants to<br />

create <strong>the</strong>ir own community-based projects.<br />

Bronx Documentary Center Inc (aka Bronx Documentary Center)<br />

$30,000 Bronx, NY<br />

To support documentary photography exhibitions and related programming. The projects will explore identity,<br />

activism, and media representation through <strong>the</strong> presentation of historical, archival photography collections,<br />

photojournalism, and works by contemporary photographers from <strong>the</strong> Bronx and West Africa. Public<br />

programming will include documentary film screenings and panel discussions, workshops, and guided exhibition<br />

tours <strong>for</strong> school and community-based groups.<br />

Cali<strong>for</strong>nia College of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Arts</strong><br />

$20,000 Oakland, CA<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> group exhibition and catalogue <strong>for</strong> "Mechanisms" at <strong>the</strong> Wattis Institute <strong>for</strong> Contemporary <strong>Arts</strong>.<br />

Through sculpture, photography, video, painting, and site-specific installation, <strong>the</strong> exhibition will explore how<br />

everyday technologies affect modern life. It is anticipated that <strong>the</strong> exhibition will appeal to a wide range of<br />

people, including tourists to <strong>the</strong> Bay Area, <strong>the</strong> technology community, and <strong>the</strong> college's community of students,<br />

faculty, and staff. Public programs, including lectures, workshops, per<strong>for</strong>mances, and panel discussions will<br />

accompany <strong>the</strong> exhibition.<br />

Capacity Builders, Inc. (aka Capacity Builders, Inc.)<br />

$20,000 Farmington, NM<br />

To support arts-business development classes <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> Navajo Artists Technology Innovation and Vision<br />

Enterprise (NATIVE) Project. Capacity Builders will provide entrepreneurial programs and professional<br />

development training serving Native American artists in <strong>the</strong> creation of a physical and virtual marketplace. The<br />

initiative will promote Native American culture, increase <strong>the</strong> development of Native American arts and crafts,<br />

and increase <strong>the</strong> exposure and direct sales of art work by providing training in marketing and sales with an<br />

emphasis on online strategies and business plan development.<br />

Center<br />

$35,000 Santa Fe, NM<br />

To support Review Santa Fe, a photographic conference and exhibition series. Held annually, <strong>the</strong> event will<br />

include a juried portfolio review, exhibitions, a gallery tour, and artist presentations. Participants will gain<br />

exposure to a national network of photographers, curators, and photo editors, as well as book, magazine, and<br />

news publishers. Selected artists also will have <strong>the</strong> opportunity to engage with <strong>the</strong> public through a variety of<br />

outreach events.<br />

Center <strong>for</strong> Contemporary Printmaking, Inc. (aka CCP)<br />

$15,000 Norwalk, CT<br />

To support an artists' residency program. The residencies, which will offer housing and all art-making expenses,<br />

will focus on <strong>the</strong> art of lithography, etching, silk screening, woodcut, and o<strong>the</strong>r print techniques. The project will<br />

include artists who are not well versed in printmaking, who will have <strong>the</strong> opportunity to create print editions in<br />

collaboration with master printers. The residency will include artist talks and o<strong>the</strong>r public programming.<br />

Center <strong>for</strong> Emerging Visual Artists (aka CFEVA)<br />

$20,000 Philadelphia, PA<br />
