Dieu Donne Papermill, Inc. (aka Dieu Donne)<br />

$25,000 New York, NY<br />

To support residency and exhibition opportunities <strong>for</strong> artists in <strong>the</strong> hand papermaking tradition. Dieu Donne will<br />

offer residencies to mid-career and emerging artists through <strong>the</strong> Lab <strong>Grant</strong> and <strong>the</strong> Workspace Residency<br />

programs, providing each artist with stipends, one-on-one collaboration with master papermakers, and an<br />

exhibition. Participating artists experiment in a medium that is outside of <strong>the</strong>ir traditional practice and receive<br />

training on specialized equipment.<br />

Disjecta Contemporary Art Center (aka Disjecta)<br />

$20,000 Portland, OR<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> Curator-in-Residence program. Selected from a national open call, <strong>the</strong> curator-in-residence will<br />

organize a series of installation-based exhibitions <strong>for</strong> a year. Project activities such as lectures, per<strong>for</strong>mances,<br />

film screenings, and music events also will take place alongside <strong>the</strong> exhibitions.<br />

Elsewhere, Inc (aka Elsewhere)<br />

$40,000 Greensboro, NC<br />

To support a site-specific residency and fellowship program <strong>for</strong> Sou<strong>the</strong>rn artists. A committee of arts<br />

professionals will nominate artists to receive travel funds, room and board, and a stipend. The residency will<br />

include access to Elsewhere's collection of vintage objects, production support <strong>for</strong> experimental new works,<br />

professional development tools, project publicity, video documentation, and access to Elsewhere's global artist<br />

network. Additional artists will be selected to produce a public art project in downtown Greensboro.<br />

Ferris State University (aka Urban Institute <strong>for</strong> Contemporary <strong>Arts</strong> of KCAD)<br />

$25,000 Big Rapids, MI<br />

To support exhibition and documentation of work by contemporary African-American artists at <strong>the</strong> Urban<br />

Institute <strong>for</strong> Contemporary <strong>Arts</strong> of KCAD. Here + Now will comprise solo exhibitions, per<strong>for</strong>mances, and<br />

community events with emerging or mid-career African-American visual artists, spoken-word artists, poets, and<br />

writers. Emerging artist Nakeya Brown's work will explore <strong>the</strong> relationships between image, gender, and race,<br />

while artist Mario Moore will use painting and o<strong>the</strong>r media to examine <strong>the</strong> social and political context of Black<br />

male identity in <strong>the</strong> United States today. Rashida Bumbray will present a new per<strong>for</strong>mance piece and several<br />

artists, scholars, poets, and writers also will participate in public programs, such as Taylor Aldridge, Jessica Lynn,<br />

Kyd Kane, and Janice Bond, among o<strong>the</strong>rs.<br />

Franklin Furnace Archive, Inc. (aka Franklin Furnace)<br />

$25,000 Brooklyn, NY<br />

To support a series of arts education workshops. Workshops led by teaching artists will introduce elementary<br />

school teachers to <strong>the</strong> concept of "peripheral thinking" as defined by <strong>the</strong> contemporary South African artist<br />

William Kentridge. The concept encourages children to combine contextual data from all five of <strong>the</strong>ir senses<br />

when learning, making <strong>the</strong> absorption of in<strong>for</strong>mation related to science, history, and math more interactive and<br />

memorable. The project will include one planning session with administrators, classroom teachers and teaching<br />

artists, lesson planning with individual teachers, and ongoing assessment.<br />

Friends of <strong>the</strong> High Line<br />

$40,000 New York, NY<br />

To support "Mutations," a series of public art installations <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> High Line Park in New York City. As part of <strong>the</strong><br />

series, artists will be selected to create new work using a broad variety of media, from traditional sculptural<br />

media to sound installation and per<strong>for</strong>mance. The artworks, installed <strong>for</strong> one year, will explore <strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>me of <strong>the</strong><br />
