American artists responded to modernization during <strong>the</strong> 1960s-80s. More than 80 works will be organized in<br />

<strong>the</strong>matic sections, featuring works by artists from Brazil, Venezuela, Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Mexico,<br />

and Uruguay. The exhibition will include photography, drawings, collages, paintings, and mixed-media<br />

sculptures. Public programming will include artist talks, tours, hands-on art-making activities, teacher<br />

workshops, and school tours. A full-color catalogue will complement <strong>the</strong> exhibition.<br />

Museum of Fine <strong>Arts</strong> Houston (aka MFAH)<br />

$60,000 Houston, TX<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> traveling exhibition, "Adios Utopia: Dreams and Deceptions in Cuban Art, 1950-2015." Organized<br />

by <strong>the</strong> Museum of Fine <strong>Arts</strong>, Houston in partnership with <strong>the</strong> Walker Art Center, <strong>the</strong> exhibition will be a<br />

comprehensive exhibition of contemporary Cuban art featuring approximately 100 works of painting, graphic<br />

arts, photography, video, installation and per<strong>for</strong>mance art created in Cuba within <strong>the</strong> past 65 years. Works in<br />

<strong>the</strong> exhibition will be drawn from collections in Cuba, <strong>the</strong> United States, <strong>the</strong> Caribbean and Europe, including<br />

1950s geometric abstraction, revival of figuration in <strong>the</strong> 1960s-70s, revolutionary photography and posters, <strong>the</strong><br />

1980s Nuevo Arte Cubano, and contemporary work of global reach since <strong>the</strong> 1990s.<br />

Museum of Fine <strong>Arts</strong> Houston (aka MFAH) (On behalf of Glassell School of Art)<br />

$40,000 Houston, TX<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> Glassell School of Art's Core Residency Program. The program provides one- or two-year<br />

residencies <strong>for</strong> artists and art scholars. The residency program offers <strong>the</strong> resources, support, and environment<br />

necessary <strong>for</strong> fellows to continue to develop <strong>the</strong>ir practices. Additionally, Glassell has designed an exhibition<br />

program to stimulate dialogue and experimentation, and has arranged <strong>for</strong> a series of visits from distinguished<br />

arts professionals who consult with fellows on <strong>the</strong>ir work and give public lectures.<br />

Museum of Fine <strong>Arts</strong>, Boston (aka MFA)<br />

$30,000 Boston, MA<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> exhibition, accompanying catalogue, and public programming <strong>for</strong> "Matisse in <strong>the</strong> Studio." The<br />

exhibition will showcase <strong>the</strong> variety and diversity of Matisse's (1869-1954) collection of objects, which were<br />

both <strong>the</strong> subjects of his work and <strong>the</strong> catalyst <strong>for</strong> his extended creative process. The exhibition will showcase<br />

<strong>the</strong>se objects-more than 40 pots, vases, containers, and textiles-alongside approximately 31 paintings, 9<br />

sculptures, and 43 works on paper by <strong>the</strong> artist. Docent-led tours, in-gallery interactive discussions, lectures, and<br />

courses led by curators, an audio guide, a free teacher workshop, and a family guide highlighting particular<br />

works and objects will engage children and families. The exhibition is anticipated to travel to <strong>the</strong> Royal Academy<br />

of <strong>Arts</strong> in London.<br />

Nasher Sculpture Center<br />

$40,000 Dallas, TX<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> traveling exhibition, "The Nature of Arp: Sculptures, Reliefs, Works on Paper." The exhibition will<br />

be <strong>the</strong> first major U.S. exhibition in three decades to examine <strong>the</strong> work of German-French sculptor, painter,<br />

poet, and abstract artist, Jean (Hans) Arp (1886-1966). Featuring approximately 85 objects spanning Arp's career<br />

from U.S. and European museums, private collections and <strong>the</strong> three Arp foundations, <strong>the</strong> exhibition will include<br />

works in plaster and bronze as reliefs, collages, drawings, and prints. "The Nature of Arp" will provide a long<br />

overdue look at one of modern art's most important and multifaceted figures. It is anticipated that <strong>the</strong><br />

exhibition will travel to two additional venues.<br />
