A Blade of Grass Fund (aka A Blade of Grass)<br />

$25,000 New York, NY<br />

To support a residency <strong>for</strong> socially engaged artists and related activities. As many as nine artists will receive a<br />

stipend, training, and mentoring to develop socially engaged art work. The artists and outside partners will<br />

produce ethnographic-style evaluations, short documentary films, public programs, and dynamic web content<br />

<strong>for</strong> practitioners and general audiences.<br />

Aaron Davis Hall, Inc. (aka Harlem Stage)<br />

$25,000 New York, NY<br />

To support WaterWorks, "E-Moves," and Harlem Stride. The Harlem Stage's residency and commissioning<br />

program WaterWorks will feature <strong>the</strong> premiere of Imani Uzuri's "Hush Arbor," an opera inspired by slave<br />

rebellions. WaterWorks also will feature The Stretch Music Festival, curated by jazz trumpeter Christian Scott.<br />

"E-Moves," a dance per<strong>for</strong>mance, will be curated by alumni such as Bill T. Jones and Kyle Abraham. Harlem<br />

Stride will celebrate Thelonious Monk's 100th birthday with a new composition in his honor by musician Igmar<br />

Thomas.<br />

Americas Society, Inc. (aka Americas Society)<br />

$25,000 New York, NY<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> multidisciplinary exhibition "Graphic Design and <strong>the</strong> Avant-Garde, 1944-1976" and related<br />

activities. In addition to <strong>the</strong> art exhibition, a concert will showcase avant-garde music composed by fellows of<br />

<strong>the</strong> Centro Latinoamericano de Altos Estudios Musicales in Buenos Aires, Argentina. New pieces commissioned<br />

by Americas Society and per<strong>for</strong>med by members of <strong>the</strong> International Contemporary Society also will be<br />

presented at <strong>the</strong> concert. A separate event will feature a conversation with musicologist Laura Novoa, one of <strong>the</strong><br />

leading experts on Latin American music.<br />

Anchorage Concert Association, Inc. (aka ACA)<br />

$20,000 Anchorage, AK<br />

To support a multidisciplinary presenting series and related activities. Anchorage Concert Association will work<br />

with community partners to arrange workshops, residencies, house concerts, and o<strong>the</strong>r outreach activities.<br />

Participating artists will include Versa-Style Dance Company members, professional storytellers of The Moth,<br />

and musicians from <strong>the</strong> Portland Cello Project.<br />

Ann Arbor Summer Festival (aka Ann Arbor Summer Festival)<br />

$10,000 Ann Arbor, MI<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> Ann Arbor Summer Festival and related activities. Multidisciplinary per<strong>for</strong>mances and residencies<br />

will explore physical per<strong>for</strong>mance techniques, interactive street and contemporary circus arts, environmental<br />

<strong>the</strong>ater, site-specific works, outdoor spectacles, and audience participatory artworks. Australia's Strange Fruit<br />

will debut "Ringing <strong>the</strong> Changes," a work that will include dancers swaying on 30-foot high poles while ringing<br />

chiming bells atop separate poles, along with musicians on <strong>the</strong> ground playing a combination of hand bells,<br />

glockenspiel, sleigh bells, and Brazilian "surdo" drums.<br />

Anna Myer and Dancers, Inc. (aka Anna Myer and Dancers)<br />

$25,000 Cambridge, MA<br />
