Root Division<br />

$20,000 San Francisco, CA<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> Second Saturday Exhibition Series. The project is a collection of visual arts events and<br />

presentations of work by Bay Area artists. Local artists will present works that explore contemporary ideas and<br />

current social concerns in a variety of media including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, installation,<br />

video, film, new media, and per<strong>for</strong>mance work. The series will include more than 350 artists, and will engage <strong>the</strong><br />

public through open gallery hours, artist panels, and related public programming.<br />

Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway Conservancy<br />

$25,000 Boston, MA<br />

To support "Playful Perspectives," an exhibition of large-scale, site-specific interactive public art works along <strong>the</strong><br />

Rose Kennedy Greenway. Using scaled objects and optical illusions, artists will create whimsical work that<br />

challenges one's sense of perspective. Invited artists include Meredith James, Mark A. Reigelman II, and Aakash<br />

Nihalani. In addition to <strong>the</strong> artworks, "Playful Perspectives" will incorporate unexpected classic play structures<br />

and activities such as te<strong>the</strong>rball courts and teeter-totters, inviting intergenerational audiences to actively engage<br />

in <strong>the</strong> public art experience.<br />

SPACES<br />

$30,000 Cleveland, OH<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> "World Artists Program," a residency opportunity <strong>for</strong> national and international artists to create<br />

new work. A jury of local, national, and international artists and curators will select artists <strong>for</strong> four- to eightweek<br />

residencies that will include studio space, housing, a stipend, a materials budget, and exhibition<br />

opportunities. Program documentation will include a brochure with critical essays and video <strong>for</strong> presentation in<br />

<strong>the</strong> gallery, on YouTube, and on <strong>the</strong> organization's website.<br />

San Anto Cultural <strong>Arts</strong>, Inc.<br />

$20,000 San Antonio, TX<br />

To support a community mural restoration program. A lead artist will be selected to engage <strong>the</strong> community in<br />

restoration activities that facilitate <strong>the</strong> continued care <strong>for</strong> murals that reflect <strong>the</strong> unique cultural history of San<br />

Antonio. The program will include an historical overview about <strong>the</strong> city's murals along with basic training in color<br />

<strong>the</strong>ory, conceptual design, installation, and restoration practices <strong>for</strong> public art. The murals selected <strong>for</strong> repair<br />

include: "8 stages of <strong>the</strong> Life of a Chicana" by Jerry and Cardee Garcia (1995), "Piedad" by Ruth Buentello (2003),<br />

and "Brighter Days" by Adriana Garcia (2006).<br />

Schuylkill Center <strong>for</strong> Environmental Education (aka Schuylkill Center)<br />

$20,000 Philadelphia, PA<br />

To support The LandLab Series, an artist residency project that will explore connections between art and<br />

environmental science. Organized in partnership with <strong>the</strong> Center <strong>for</strong> Emerging Visual Artists, LandLab will invite<br />

artists and ecologists to develop site-specific, outdoor works that explore issues related to environmental<br />

remediation and land use. Each project will result in an outdoor installation at <strong>the</strong> Schuylkill Center and an<br />

exhibition at a Center City gallery. Related educational programming will be planned, including panel<br />

discussions, exhibition talks, and presentations at local schools.<br />

Sculpture Center, Inc. (aka SculptureCenter)<br />

$25,000 Long Island City, NY<br />
