that will travel to Baltimore-area prisons, juvenile detention facilities, homeless shelters, and assisted living<br />

facilities free-of-charge <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong>se partner organizations and <strong>the</strong>ir populations. The CS Mobile Unit will hire<br />

professional actors, directors, and designers <strong>for</strong> each production tour. Each tour will include <strong>the</strong> per<strong>for</strong>mance of<br />

a play. After <strong>the</strong> show, audiences will have dialogue with <strong>the</strong> artists and each o<strong>the</strong>r about <strong>the</strong> play's <strong>the</strong>mes and<br />

issues that are relevant to <strong>the</strong>ir lives. The JHU Bloomberg School of Public Health will provide measurement and<br />

assessment tools to gauge <strong>the</strong> program's success and offer options <strong>for</strong> improvement.<br />

Cloud <strong>Arts</strong>cience Foundation (aka Le Laboratoire Cambridge)<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> presentation of "15 Points," a sculptural, robotic, point-light installation, and related activities,<br />

that will explore <strong>the</strong> human-machine interface, created by artist collective rAndom International and presented<br />

in partnership with Harvard The installation will be accompanied by a series of activities that will engage <strong>the</strong><br />

public in both artistic and scientific content, such as a lecture series featuring artists and experts in artificial<br />

intelligence, <strong>the</strong> human-machine interface, evolution, and robotics. The installation will be an experiment in <strong>the</strong><br />

radical abstraction of <strong>the</strong> human <strong>for</strong>m and movement, drawing inspiration from Picasso's "Les Demoiselles<br />

d'Avignon." It will experiment with <strong>the</strong> minimal amount of in<strong>for</strong>mation necessary <strong>for</strong> a <strong>for</strong>m to be recognized as<br />

human as well as <strong>the</strong> fundamental impact created by subtle changes within that in<strong>for</strong>mation as <strong>the</strong> <strong>for</strong>m fails to<br />

attain a lifelike appearance.<br />

Diavolo Dance Theatre (aka DIAVOLO | Architecture in Motion)<br />

$45,000 Los Angeles, CA<br />

To support The Luminoir Project in partnership with <strong>the</strong> Institute <strong>for</strong> Creativity, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Arts</strong>, and Technology at<br />

Virginia Tech. Project activities will include <strong>the</strong> fabrication and testing of advanced technologies that will<br />

enhance <strong>the</strong> creation of Diavolo's newest dance work, "Luminoir," by Artistic Director Jacques Heim.<br />

Researchers from <strong>the</strong> departments of Architecture and Urban Design, Computer Science, and Electrical<br />

Engineering will develop innovations such as movement-based sensors, wearable electronic devices, and<br />

electronic textiles <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> stage design as well as a customized smartphone application <strong>for</strong> increased audience<br />

engagement.<br />

Exploratorium<br />

$100,000 San Francisco, CA<br />

To support Artistic Practice towards Urban Resilience (APUR), in partnership with <strong>the</strong> Department of Civil and<br />

Environmental Engineering at <strong>the</strong> University of Cali<strong>for</strong>nia, Berkeley. APUR will immerse artists in a multi-scale<br />

investigation of transportation systems, community, and governance related to <strong>the</strong> impacts of climate change in<br />

<strong>the</strong> San Francisco Bay Area. In conjunction with <strong>the</strong> Resilience of Infrastructure as Seas Rise (RISeR) project-a<br />

consortium of academic institutions, research labs, nonprofits, and government entities-APUR will explore how<br />

artists approach <strong>the</strong> problem of sea level rise and its impact on city infrastructure, as well as how artistic<br />

conceptualization of climate data can in<strong>for</strong>m, inspire, and empower communities at risk. The project will include<br />

a colloquium connecting professional artists directly with scientists to investigate how artistic approaches can<br />

fur<strong>the</strong>r community engagement and learning. Through a collaborative residency, selected artists will develop<br />

prototypes of plat<strong>for</strong>ms and data presentations to support a public education and resiliency campaign.<br />

First Peoples Fund<br />

$100,000 Rapid City, SD<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> Rolling Rez <strong>Arts</strong> mobile unit, in partnership with The Lakota Fund. The Rolling Rez <strong>Arts</strong> mobile<br />

unit will provide art classes, professional arts business and entrepreneurship training, asset building, financial<br />

education, and mobile banking to artists on <strong>the</strong> Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. The Lakota Fund will co-<br />
