$10,000 San Francisco, CA<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> creation and presentation of "Trap Doors/Painted Corners/Trick Bags," a new work by Artistic<br />

Director Robert Moses. The piece will explore <strong>the</strong> parallel paths taken from childhood to adulthood, based on<br />

race and possibility, and will look at <strong>the</strong> displacement, disconnection, and lifetime of personal disparity that<br />

results from <strong>the</strong>se separate paths. To develop <strong>the</strong> work, Moses will reach out to organizations such as <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>National</strong> Black Police Association, San Francisco Police Activities League, and Youth Speaks. "Trap Doors/Painted<br />

Corners/Trick Bags" will be a triptych and premiere in three parts: onstage at Yerba Buena Center <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Arts</strong>;<br />

outside at <strong>the</strong> famous Powell Street cable car turn-around; and in <strong>the</strong> historically African-American and now<br />

changing Bayview neighborhood of San Francisco.<br />

Stephen Petronio Dance Company, Inc. (aka Stephen Petronio Company)<br />

$40,000 New York, NY<br />

To support restaging two additional pieces <strong>for</strong> Bloodlines and <strong>the</strong> creation of a new work by Stephen Petronio.<br />

Bloodlines is a company initiative launched in 2015 to honor <strong>the</strong> lineage of American postmodern dance masters<br />

and address <strong>the</strong> issue of protecting <strong>the</strong> postmodern tradition of artists. As part of this initiative, <strong>the</strong> company<br />

will bring work by artists such as Yvonne Rainer, Steve Paxton, and Anna Halprin into <strong>the</strong> repertory. In addition,<br />

Petronio will create "Untitled Touch," a new work set to a commissioned score by Son Lux (aka Ryan Lott). The<br />

dance will explore <strong>the</strong> phenomena of touch-a paradigm of communication from skin to skin. The work's New<br />

York premiere will take place at The Joyce and will <strong>the</strong>n tour to <strong>the</strong> American Dance Institute (Rockville,<br />

Maryland) and to White Bird (Portland, Oregon).<br />

Thodos Dance Chicago<br />

$10,000 Chicago, IL<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> restaging and presentation of "Nos Duraturi" by dancer and choreographer Bella Lewitzky. Nos<br />

Duraturi will be restaged by <strong>for</strong>mer dancers of <strong>the</strong> Bella Lewitzky Dance Company and will be per<strong>for</strong>med at<br />

Chicago's Auditorium Theatre as part of <strong>the</strong> company's 25th anniversary celebration. This work will become <strong>the</strong><br />

fourth component of <strong>the</strong> company's American Dance Legacy Project which seeks to keep <strong>the</strong> works of renowned<br />

American dance artists alive on stage. Several master classes will be taught in <strong>the</strong> Lewitzky technique <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Chicago dance community including a class featuring <strong>the</strong> Lewitzky technique <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> TDC Youth Ensemble.<br />

Trisha Brown Company, Inc. (aka Trisha Brown Dance Company)<br />

$80,000 New York, NY<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> reconstruction, touring, educational work, and preservation of Trisha Brown's legacy. The new<br />

program "Trisha Brown: In Plain Site," will adapt Brown's works into site-specific per<strong>for</strong>mance experiences. In<br />

collaboration with presenters, <strong>the</strong> work will reach new audiences by creating programs that highlight <strong>the</strong> unique<br />

features of <strong>the</strong> local community. Proscenium works can be toured alongside <strong>the</strong> site-specific program, and will<br />

revive additional works out of Brown's repertory. Educational activities will be available at Gibney Dance Center<br />

and Bard College. The Trisha Brown Archive is being prepared <strong>for</strong> placement into a public institution, and<br />

elements will be showcased alongside <strong>the</strong> per<strong>for</strong>mance activities and in stand-alone exhibitions.<br />

Tulsa Ballet Theatre, Inc. (aka Tulsa Ballet)<br />

$20,000 Tulsa, OK<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> creation and presentation of a new ballet. A collaborative ef<strong>for</strong>t led by Artistic Director Marcello<br />

Angelini, <strong>the</strong> work will feature choreography by Edwaard Liang; set design by Basil Twist, Mark Zappone, and<br />

Vienna Staatsoper; and music by Oliver Peter Gaber. The company will provide tickets to clients of local social<br />
