3rd I South Asian Independent Film (aka 3rd i Films)<br />

$10,000 San Francisco, CA<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> San Francisco International South Asian Film Festival. The event is a multi-day festival screening<br />

feature films, documentaries, and short films - classic and contemporary - by South Asian filmmakers from<br />

around <strong>the</strong> world. The festival will spotlight screenings and programming featuring India's Dalit community.<br />

Programming will also include panel discussions, and will feature proposed guest artist filmmaker Nagraj<br />

Manjule (India).<br />

A Better Jamaica, Inc. (aka ABJ)<br />

$10,000 Jamaica, NY<br />

To support Delightful Festival, a series of cultural events with <strong>the</strong>mes such as African Delights, Asian Delights,<br />

Caribbean Delights, and Latino Delights. The festivals will highlight <strong>the</strong> music, film, and food of as many as four<br />

historically underserved ethnic communities in Jamaica, New York. A variety of partnering cultural organizations<br />

serving <strong>the</strong>se communities will assist <strong>the</strong> selection of a guest artist <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> program.<br />

ACA of Central Florida, Inc. (aka Asian Cultural Association)<br />

$10,000 Longwood, FL<br />

To support Parampara: An Evening of Indian Dance, and related outreach activities. A dance concert will feature<br />

Kathak Master Pandit Birju Majaraj (India). In addition to dance by Majaraj, o<strong>the</strong>r concert elements will include<br />

accompanying live music per<strong>for</strong>mances. Majaraj will also provide outreach elements, such as a workshop <strong>for</strong><br />

college students and <strong>the</strong> public.<br />

Abilene <strong>Arts</strong> Alliance (aka Abilene Cultural Affairs Council)<br />

$10,000 Abilene, TX<br />

To support Artfully Abilene, a unified promotion/cultural tourism project. The comprehensive marketing<br />

campaign will educate both residents and visitors about cultural activities in rural Abilene, Texas. The campaign<br />

will include marketing components such as a print magazine, e-marketing, an online calendar and content,<br />

brochures, and cultural programming.<br />

About Productions (aka About...Productions)<br />

$10,000 Pasadena, CA<br />

To support Young Theaterworks. High school students will create and per<strong>for</strong>m a new <strong>the</strong>ater work inspired by<br />

Los Angeles' historic Chicano movement. Proposed guest artist and actress Sayda Trujillo will utilize an already<br />

developed, student-created script as a starting point <strong>for</strong> instruction in <strong>the</strong>ater skills such as script review, acting,<br />

and producing. This project represents a growth in programming <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> organization, moving from annual<br />

staged readings of student work to a full production and public per<strong>for</strong>mance.<br />

Alaska Native Heritage Center Inc.<br />

$10,000 Anchorage, AK<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> World Music and Multicultural Drumming Festival. Tlingit leader and proposed guest artist Lyle<br />

James will per<strong>for</strong>m dance, storytelling, drumming, and song selections along with members of <strong>the</strong> Woosh.ji.een<br />

Dancers at a festival celebrating Alaska Native art and culture. A related workshop will teach traditional song,<br />

dance, and drumming, culminating in a public per<strong>for</strong>mance by James, <strong>the</strong> Woosh.ji.een Dancers, and workshop<br />

participants.<br />

Some details of <strong>the</strong> projects listed are subject to change, contingent upon prior <strong>Arts</strong> <strong>Endowment</strong> approval. In<strong>for</strong>mation is current as of<br />

December 7, 2016.
