Roland Hayes School of Music in Roxbury Crossing, Massachusetts, where it will be premiered by <strong>the</strong> school<br />

band and <strong>the</strong>n later recorded by <strong>the</strong> University of Minnesota Symphonic Wind Ensemble. The creation of <strong>the</strong><br />

new work will be documented on <strong>the</strong> BandQuest website and will be published and distributed by Hal Leonard<br />

music publishing company. Curriculum materials to accompany <strong>the</strong> new work will be created and made available<br />

online.<br />

American Composers Orchestra, Inc. (aka ACO)<br />

$25,000 New York, NY<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> Emerging Composers Project. Activities will include Orchestra Underground concerts at Carnegie<br />

Hall featuring premieres and newly commissioned works. O<strong>the</strong>r project plans include <strong>the</strong> Underwood New<br />

Music Readings serving emerging composers and <strong>the</strong> EarShot New Music Readings <strong>for</strong> composers in<br />

collaboration with Berkeley Symphony, Columbus Symphony, and New York Philharmonic.<br />

American Guild of Organists (aka AGO)<br />

$25,000 New York, NY<br />

To support educational programs and career development <strong>for</strong> organists, choral conductors, and composers.<br />

Plans include Pipe Organ Encounters, educational programs <strong>for</strong> youth and adults; regional conventions in cities<br />

across <strong>the</strong> country; a professional certification program <strong>for</strong> organ playing and choral conducting; and multiple<br />

commissions of new works <strong>for</strong> organ. Promotion of programs and news of conventions, educational activities,<br />

and Guild certification will be published in <strong>the</strong> monthly "The American Organist" magazine.<br />

American Symphony Orchestra League (aka League of American Orchestras)<br />

$90,000 New York, NY<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> League of American Orchestras' strategic services designed to streng<strong>the</strong>n orchestras through<br />

learning, leadership development, research, and communications within <strong>the</strong> field. The League will host a<br />

national conference focusing on best practices. Training and development opportunities will be provided to<br />

expand leadership skills. The Emerging Leaders Program will help streng<strong>the</strong>n <strong>the</strong> skills of competitively selected<br />

emerging leaders through a structured curriculum, mentoring, and directed on-<strong>the</strong>-job training. The Knowledge<br />

Center will conduct, analyze, and disseminate a wide range of surveys. The Hub, a special section of <strong>the</strong> League's<br />

website, comprises online in<strong>for</strong>mation aggregating <strong>the</strong> latest thinking, news, reviews, and personnel shifts in <strong>the</strong><br />

orchestra world in one location. The League's "Symphony" magazine and its free digital companion,<br />

"SymphonyOnline," feature articles that provide in<strong>for</strong>mation and viewpoints, chronicle <strong>the</strong> changing cultural<br />

scene, and shed light on innovation in orchestras.<br />

Apollo's Fire, The Cleveland Baroque Orchestra (aka Apollo's Fire Baroque Orchestra)<br />

$35,000 Cleveland Height, OH<br />

To support a 25th anniversary festival of concerts featuring symphonic music of Beethoven on period<br />

instruments. Programming will include per<strong>for</strong>mances of Symphony No. 5 and <strong>the</strong> Violin Concerto with American<br />

soloist Noah Bendix-Balgley, concertmaster at <strong>the</strong> Berlin Philharmonic. Pre-concert talks on Beethoven's life may<br />

be presented by visiting scholar Thomas Forrest Kelly of Harvard University. O<strong>the</strong>r educational events will<br />

include post-concert discussions and family concerts.<br />

Apple Hill Center <strong>for</strong> Chamber Music, Inc.<br />

$15,000 Sullivan, NH<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> Summer Chamber Music Festival. Plans include a per<strong>for</strong>mance series and <strong>the</strong> Summer Chamber<br />

Music Workshop, a resident teaching facility <strong>for</strong> students of all ages and abilities. The festival will feature weekly<br />

concerts by <strong>the</strong> resident Apple Hill String Quartet and resident teaching faculty as well as educational and<br />
