Canyon Cinema Foundation (aka Canyon Cinema)<br />

$25,000 San Francisco, CA<br />

To support an exhibition and touring program celebrating <strong>the</strong> 50th anniversary of film distributor Canyon<br />

Cinema. Dedicated to independent and experimental media art, works from <strong>the</strong> Canyon Cinema collection,<br />

many in 16mm <strong>for</strong>mat, will be selected <strong>for</strong> restoration, digitization, and exhibition. Visiting filmmakers and staff<br />

will participate in discussions accompanying <strong>the</strong> screenings, featuring work by artists such as Chick Strand,<br />

Robert Nelson, Leann Bartok, and David Lebrun. The exhibition also will tour to venues across <strong>the</strong> country in<br />

cities such as Chicago, Illinois; Louisville, Kentucky; and Rochester, New York.<br />

Center <strong>for</strong> Asian American Media (aka CAAM)<br />

$25,000 San Francisco, CA<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> CAAMFest, a media arts festival showcasing <strong>the</strong> work of Asian and Asian-American artists. Held in<br />

San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose, CAAMFest showcases documentary, narrative, animated and experimental<br />

works in film and video, as well as live events, multi-media per<strong>for</strong>mances, and expanded ventures into <strong>the</strong> music<br />

and culinary arts worlds. Festival attendees will have <strong>the</strong> opportunity to participate in activities and curated<br />

experiences that provide a deeper context of Asian-American filmmaking and gain a greater understanding of<br />

<strong>the</strong> diversity and richness of contemporary Asian-American cultural voices through educational panels and<br />

discussions. Additional festival programming may include free screenings of curated films from Muslim Youth<br />

Voices, a three-year national initiative of <strong>the</strong> Center <strong>for</strong> Asian American Media (CAAM); and Memories to Light:<br />

Asian American Home Movies, featuring a collection of films from Cali<strong>for</strong>nia's Central Valley rural farming<br />

communities.<br />

Center <strong>for</strong> Documentary Studies (aka Full Frame Documentary Film Festival)<br />

$30,000 Durham, NC<br />

To support filmmakers' travel expenses and venue rental <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> 20th Full Frame Documentary Film Festival.<br />

Held in <strong>the</strong> spring, <strong>the</strong> festival will include discussions, panels, and master classes <strong>for</strong> students and professionals<br />

on <strong>the</strong> topic of documentary film. Panel discussions are recorded and posted online <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> general public. New<br />

documentaries and retrospectives will be screened, as well as a <strong>the</strong>matic series presented by a guest artist or<br />

curator. The 2016 festival included films from Roger Ross Williams, Rokhsareh Ghaem Maghami, and Kirsten<br />

Johnson. The Center <strong>for</strong> Documentary Studies offers free year-round screenings and educational activities.<br />

Chicago Filmmakers<br />

$25,000 Chicago, IL<br />

To support a film and exhibition program and <strong>the</strong> 28th Onion City Experimental Film and Video Festival.<br />

Exhibition programming will include experimental works, short films, animation, and socially relevant<br />

documentaries throughout <strong>the</strong> year. Works will be presented in a variety of <strong>for</strong>mats such as live per<strong>for</strong>mances,<br />

curated shorts programs, <strong>the</strong>matic series, and one-person shows. Additional programming will include a<br />

quarterly lecture series in which film scholars, authors, and historians curate programs and speak on a range of<br />

topics around independent film and video.<br />

Chicago International Film Festival Inc. Cinema-Chicago (aka Cinema/Chicago OR Chicago International Film)<br />

$45,000 Chicago, IL<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> 53rd Chicago International Film Festival and o<strong>the</strong>r related film programming. The festival screens<br />

contemporary American and international feature-length films, short works, and documentaries. Prior to<br />

opening night, <strong>the</strong> festival will host a free international screening series, highlighting films with limited<br />

distribution in <strong>the</strong> United States. Festival programming will include free panels, workshops, and master classes<br />

open to <strong>the</strong> public, as well as a series of screenings <strong>for</strong> Chicago-area public school students accompanied by<br />
