To support a per<strong>for</strong>mance project celebrating <strong>the</strong> legacy of American composer Lou Harrison. The project, titled<br />

A Lou Harrison Centennial Celebration, will comprise tributes to Harrison, composer talks, and concerts<br />

featuring <strong>the</strong> works of Harrison. Programming will include <strong>the</strong> participation of composers Jimmy Lopez and<br />

Natacha Diels. Activities will take place at Z Space in San Francisco.<br />

San Francisco Jazz Organization (aka SFJAZZ)<br />

$40,000 San Francisco, CA<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> SFJAZZ Collective's commissioning, development, and per<strong>for</strong>mance of new original works by<br />

octet members and arrangements of music by Miles Davis. During its <strong>2017</strong> national tour, <strong>the</strong> ensemble will<br />

per<strong>for</strong>m and engage in outreach events including master classes <strong>for</strong> young musicians. Confirmed tour stops<br />

include <strong>the</strong> Ferst Center <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> in Atlanta, Georgia; Chicago Symphony Center in Chicago, Illinois; Ferring<br />

Jazz Bistro, in St. Louis, Missouri; Miller Theatre at Columbia University in New York, New York; Annenberg<br />

Center <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> Per<strong>for</strong>ming <strong>Arts</strong> in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Brooks Center <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> at Clemson<br />

University in Clemson, South Carolina.<br />

San Francisco Symphony (aka SFS)<br />

$85,000 San Francisco, CA<br />

To support a per<strong>for</strong>mance project celebrating <strong>the</strong> 70th birthday of composer John Adams. Under <strong>the</strong> direction<br />

of Artistic Director Michael Tilson Thomas, <strong>the</strong> project will feature <strong>the</strong> per<strong>for</strong>mances of recent works by Adams<br />

including <strong>the</strong> oratorio "The Gospel According to <strong>the</strong> O<strong>the</strong>r Mary," which will be per<strong>for</strong>med with conductor Joana<br />

Carneiro, music director of <strong>the</strong> Berkeley Symphony, guest artists Kelley O'Connor, Tamara Mum<strong>for</strong>d, Jay Hunter<br />

Morris, and <strong>the</strong> San Francisco Symphony Chorus; and "Scheherezade.2" with guest artist, violinist Leila<br />

Josefowicz, <strong>for</strong> whom <strong>the</strong> concerto-like work was originally written. The compositions will be <strong>the</strong> center of<br />

lectures and community events that focus both on <strong>the</strong> roles of women in traditional narratives and how such<br />

<strong>the</strong>mes fit into <strong>the</strong> composer's socially and politically engaged body of work. The concerts will be presented at<br />

Davies Symphony Hall.<br />

Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival Ltd. (aka Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival)<br />

$40,000 Santa Fe, NM<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> 45th annual Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival. Under <strong>the</strong> leadership of Artistic Director Marc<br />

Neikrug, programming will feature <strong>the</strong> world premiere per<strong>for</strong>mance of a new work <strong>for</strong> clarinet, bassoon,<br />

trumpet, violin, cello, and piano by American composer William Bolcom and a number of chamber ensembles<br />

including FLUX String Quartet. The project will include a week-long workshop facilitated by FLUX <strong>for</strong> promising<br />

young composers. Per<strong>for</strong>mances will be held in various settings throughout Santa Fe and in Albuquerque.<br />

Savannah Music Festival, Inc. (aka Savannah Music Festival)<br />

$40,000 Savannah, GA<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> annual Savannah Music Festival. The early spring festival will feature more than 500 international<br />

artists in diverse programming, including chamber and symphonic music, blues, jazz, and world music. Artists<br />

such as Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Earls of Leicester, Trio Solisti, instrumentalists and composers such as<br />

David Finckel, Wycliffe Gordon, Wu Han, NEA Jazz Master Dr. Lonnie Smith, Terrell Staf<strong>for</strong>d, and Miguel Zenon,<br />

as well as artists from Brazil, Canary Islands, Cuba, Haiti, Mongolia, and Pakistan, will per<strong>for</strong>m during <strong>the</strong> festival<br />

in Savannah's Historic District.<br />
