Dances For A Variable Population (aka DVP)<br />
$10,000 New York, NY<br />
To support <strong>the</strong> presentation of "REVIVAL." The project will comprise a series of dance per<strong>for</strong>mances and<br />
community workshops in celebration and renewal of 20th-century modern dance, developed with <strong>the</strong> senior<br />
dancers who helped create it. Through free public per<strong>for</strong>mances featuring <strong>the</strong>se senior professional dance<br />
artists alongside groups of nonprofessional senior dancers, <strong>the</strong> series will both revive and renew dance<br />
traditions, and will bring toge<strong>the</strong>r multigenerational communities in a celebration of <strong>the</strong> discovery of<br />
movement. Per<strong>for</strong>mances may reach audiences in New York City parks, plazas, and public spaces, and will be<br />
followed by an interactive dance workshop <strong>for</strong> audiences.<br />
Danspace Project, Inc.<br />
$40,000 New York, NY<br />
To support dance presentations, residencies, and developmental activities <strong>for</strong> choreographers. Each of <strong>the</strong>se<br />
activities contributes to Danspace's Choreographic Center Without Walls, a holistic system of support <strong>for</strong> artists<br />
across various career stages and points in <strong>the</strong> developmental process of <strong>the</strong>ir work. This framework provides<br />
curatorial support and research and contextualization around artists and <strong>the</strong>ir work through public discussions<br />
and online publications. All activities will take place at <strong>the</strong> historic St. Mark's Church in New York City's East<br />
Village.<br />
Discalced, Inc. (aka Mark Morris Dance Group)<br />
$70,000 Brooklyn, NY<br />
To support <strong>the</strong> creation of a new work and restaging of older works by Artistic Director Mark Morris. The<br />
choreographer will create a new work to music by composer Lou Harrison <strong>for</strong> premiere at <strong>the</strong> Tanglewood<br />
Music Festival in Lenox, Massachusetts. The piece will be part of an all-Harrison program to celebrate <strong>the</strong> 100th<br />
anniversary of <strong>the</strong> composer's birth. The company also will restage Morris' 18-minute work <strong>for</strong> 7 dancers,<br />
"Dancing Honeymoon" (1998) <strong>for</strong> per<strong>for</strong>mance at <strong>the</strong> Krannert Center <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> Per<strong>for</strong>ming <strong>Arts</strong> in Urbana, Illinois,<br />
and at <strong>the</strong> George Mason Center <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> in Fairfax, Virginia. The work is set to music transcribed and<br />
arranged by Ethan Iverson, from historical recordings of Gertrude Lawrence and Jack Buchanan, which will be<br />
per<strong>for</strong>med live by <strong>the</strong> MMDG Music Ensemble. All per<strong>for</strong>mances will include audience engagement activities as<br />
part of Access/MMDG programming to contextualize <strong>the</strong> per<strong>for</strong>mances.<br />
Flyaway Productions<br />
$10,000 San Francisco, CA<br />
To support <strong>the</strong> creation and presentation of "The Credibility Project." The site-specific per<strong>for</strong>mance will bring<br />
awareness through aerial dance and dialogue to a serious sociopolitical issue: a lack of credibility <strong>for</strong> women.<br />
Proposed collaborators include photojournalist Lynn Johnson and hip-hop composer MADLINES. Free<br />
per<strong>for</strong>mances will premiere in San Francisco's Tenderloin neighborhood on a wall owned by <strong>the</strong> University of<br />
Cali<strong>for</strong>nia's Hastings Law School. This will be Flyaway's fourth community responsive project in <strong>the</strong> Tenderloin<br />
since 2012.<br />
Foundation <strong>for</strong> Independent Artists, Inc. (aka FIA)<br />
$40,000 New York, NY<br />
To support <strong>the</strong> creation, presentation, and touring of works by several dance artists. Art Bridgman & Myrna<br />
Packer will tour "Truck" to <strong>the</strong> Tulsa Per<strong>for</strong>ming <strong>Arts</strong> Center (Tulsa, Oklahoma), <strong>the</strong> Sheldon Theatre (Red Wing,<br />
Minnesota), and Des Moines Per<strong>for</strong>ming <strong>Arts</strong> (Des Moines, Iowa). Beth Gill will create and premiere a new work<br />
in conjunction with <strong>the</strong> exhibition, "Merce Cunningham: Common Time" at <strong>the</strong> Walker Art Center (Minneapolis,<br />
