Alpha Workshops, Inc. (aka The Alpha Workshops)<br />

$30,000 New York, NY<br />

To support a decorative arts training program. With a focus primarily on HIV-positive individuals from lowincome<br />

communities, <strong>the</strong> program includes an introductory course offered on a quarterly basis and an advanced<br />

course offered twice a year. Through <strong>the</strong> courses, qualified instructors teach marketable decorative arts<br />

techniques such as gilding, faux finishes, stamping, and stenciling. Students also learn about Venetian plaster,<br />

mural painting, and mold-making/casting, and develop job skills that qualify <strong>the</strong>m <strong>for</strong> employment in Alpha's<br />

studio or in o<strong>the</strong>r positions in <strong>the</strong> field once <strong>the</strong>y graduate from <strong>the</strong> program.<br />

American Institute of Graphic <strong>Arts</strong> (aka AIGA)<br />

$40,000 New York, NY<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> AIGA Medalists Project. AIGA will collect, digitize, and make <strong>the</strong> work of its end-of-career<br />

medalists available online via <strong>the</strong> AIGA Design Archive. The archive is intended to be a dynamic knowledge<br />

plat<strong>for</strong>m that uses visual storytelling to share <strong>the</strong> legacy of designers, both historical and contemporary. AIGA<br />

medals have been awarded since 1920 to notable designers who have set standards of design excellence during<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir lifetime or have made individual contributions to innovation within <strong>the</strong> practice of design in <strong>the</strong> United<br />

States.<br />

Anchorage Museum Association (aka Anchorage Museum)<br />

$25,000 Anchorage, AK<br />

To support Studio 61. Through a series of public programs, large-scale environmental graphics in public spaces, a<br />

line of designed products, and numerous artist exchanges, conversations, and commissions, <strong>the</strong> museum seeks<br />

to articulate <strong>the</strong> distinct meaning, value, and character of place at a time of environmental change. "61" refers<br />

to <strong>the</strong> latitude of Anchorage and o<strong>the</strong>r Nor<strong>the</strong>rn cities such as Reykjavik, Helsinki, and Oslo, that also are being<br />

studied by scientists and o<strong>the</strong>rs to understand <strong>the</strong> impacts of climate change. Through <strong>the</strong> project, artists and<br />

designers in <strong>the</strong>se nor<strong>the</strong>rn climates will share <strong>the</strong>ir vision of <strong>the</strong> environmental and cultural changes <strong>the</strong>y<br />

witness due to climate change.<br />

Architectural League of New York<br />

$40,000 New York, NY<br />

To support Diversified Delivery, <strong>the</strong> creation of new distribution channels <strong>for</strong> editorial output. The Architectural<br />

League will develop and deploy new content delivery <strong>for</strong>mats, including digital magazines, printed chapbooks,<br />

video series, and podcasts, to diversify <strong>the</strong> ways in which audiences around <strong>the</strong> country access <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

programming to learn about design, architecture, and citymaking. Diversified Delivery seeks to find present<br />

plat<strong>for</strong>ms that will appeal to a new, general audience, perhaps unfamiliar with <strong>the</strong> jargon and internal debates<br />

of design, yet still keenly interested in its topics.<br />

Art Center College of Design<br />

$30,000 Pasadena, CA<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> Design Demonstration Studio: Inspiring Tomorrow's Car Designers. Art Center and <strong>the</strong> Petersen<br />

Automotive Museum will partner on a design demonstration studio at <strong>the</strong> Petersen's newly redesigned facility in<br />

Los Angeles. Transportation design students from ArtCenter will create sketches, digital renderings, 3D models<br />

in <strong>the</strong> studio and serve as public docents to explain automotive design to family audiences of all ages. The<br />

project is designed to raise awareness of industrial design career paths among diverse K-12 students.<br />

Some details of <strong>the</strong> projects listed are subject to change, contingent upon prior <strong>Arts</strong> <strong>Endowment</strong> approval. In<strong>for</strong>mation is current as of<br />
