Variations" with engagements at Duke Presents (Durham, North Carolina) and Peak Per<strong>for</strong>mances (Montclair,<br />

New Jersey).<br />

George Balanchine Foundation, Inc.<br />

$20,000 New York, NY<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> Balanchine Video Archives. The Video Archives were devised to capture <strong>the</strong> first-hand memories<br />

and insights of dancers who worked with George Balanchine. The dancers are filmed coaching young dancers in<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir roles, and are <strong>the</strong>n interviewed by a dance critic or historian to discuss Balanchine's ideas and his impact<br />

upon <strong>the</strong> dancers. An archival product is created and copies are available <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> use of universities and research<br />

libraries worldwide. Master recordings are deposited in <strong>the</strong> New York Public Library <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> Per<strong>for</strong>ming <strong>Arts</strong>, and<br />

<strong>the</strong> videos are electronically available to educational systems everywhere through Alexander Street Press.<br />

Gotham Dance, Inc. (aka Bebe Miller Company)<br />

$30,000 Columbus, OH<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> presentation of new works by choreographer Bebe Miller, and <strong>the</strong> investigation and sharing of<br />

<strong>the</strong> creative process via several routes of public engagement. The project will include per<strong>for</strong>mances of Bebe<br />

Miller Company's (BMC) newest dance works in venues in New York, Ohio, and Washington State,<br />

complemented by salons, open rehearsals, talks, and workshops that reveal artists' research to <strong>the</strong> public, as<br />

well as media installations of related materials. There will be a national distribution of an e-book and archival<br />

website, serving as a resource and template <strong>for</strong> creative process documentation geared <strong>for</strong> academic and artist<br />

audiences. Lastly, in collaboration with On <strong>the</strong> Boards, BMC will hold a national convening of artists,<br />

administrators, presenters, curators, archivists, scholars and technologists to share innovative, artist-driven<br />

methodologies <strong>for</strong> tracking and archiving <strong>the</strong> creative process.<br />

Houston Ballet Foundation (aka Houston Ballet)<br />

$50,000 Houston, TX<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> premieres of several ballets by Houston Ballet. The works to be presented include Jiri Kylian's<br />

"Stepping Stones," and David Bintley's newest full-length ballet, "The Tempest." Pre-per<strong>for</strong>mance in<strong>for</strong>mation<br />

will be available on <strong>the</strong> company's website about each ballet such as articles, historical in<strong>for</strong>mation, synopses,<br />

image galleries, biographies, and interviews with choreographers, designers, dancers, and musicians. Houston<br />

Ballet also will offer free Dance Talks, which is an opportunity <strong>for</strong> audience members to meet dancers,<br />

choreographers, and/or musicians involved with <strong>the</strong> ballets.<br />

Hudson Opera House, Inc. (aka HOH)<br />

$10,000 Hudson, NY<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> Hudson Opera House's Inaugural Dance Program (IDP). Taking place in its newly restored<br />

landmark facility in <strong>the</strong> central arts and business community of Hudson, New York, IDP is a signature series of<br />

per<strong>for</strong>mances, residencies, and multidisciplinary events combined with talks and lecture-demonstrations. Adam<br />

Weinert will be resident artistic director <strong>for</strong> IDP. Proposed programs include a youth engagement initiative, Hip<br />

Hop Hudson. The project will provide residents in <strong>the</strong> City of Hudson and <strong>the</strong> surrounding Hudson Valley, and<br />

national/international tourists, with opportunities to access, engage with, and explore significant dance works<br />

and <strong>the</strong>ir context by a select group of artistically diverse New York City and national artists.<br />
