To support <strong>the</strong> Visual Artist Fellowship program. Each two-year fellowship cycle will provide selected artists<br />

from <strong>the</strong> Philadelphia region with a stipend and career enhancement services, including operational assistance,<br />

mentorship, and networking with curators and collectors. Additionally, artists will receive guidance about<br />

fundraising, marketing, and how best to use new technology <strong>for</strong> both promoting and making <strong>the</strong>ir work. A<br />

retreat bringing past fellows toge<strong>the</strong>r with current artists is also planned.<br />

Center <strong>for</strong> Photography at Woodstock, Inc. (aka CPW)<br />

$20,000 Woodstock, NY<br />

To support a residency program <strong>for</strong> photographers. A peer review panel will select artists to receive studio,<br />

darkroom, and equipment access, an honorarium, and lodging and meals. Established in 1999, <strong>the</strong> annual<br />

program provides American artists, with an emphasis on artists of color, working in photography with onemonth<br />

residencies. A curator or critic also will be selected to enable him or her to advance individual research.<br />

Center <strong>for</strong> Women & Their Work (aka Women & Their Work)<br />

$20,000 Austin, TX<br />

To support a series of solo exhibitions with a focus on emerging women artists of Texas. Artists will be selected<br />

by an advisory council made up of alumni artists and staff to develop a new body of work <strong>for</strong> an exhibition in<br />

consultation with a curatorial advisor. The exhibitions will be accompanied by catalogues, educational programs,<br />

and video interviews with <strong>the</strong> artists. Outreach activities also may include talks by <strong>the</strong> exhibiting artists,<br />

per<strong>for</strong>mances, and panel discussions.<br />

City of Yonkers, New York (On behalf of Department of Planning & Development)<br />

$20,000 Yonkers, NY<br />

To support a site-specific, public art project to commemorate <strong>the</strong> emancipation of a group of 18th-century<br />

enslaved Africans from <strong>the</strong> region. The creation of a life-sized bronze sculpture by local artist Vinnie Bagwell will<br />

be part of "The Enslaved Africans' Rain Garden" initiative in downtown Yonkers. The sculpture will illustrate <strong>the</strong><br />

breadth of slavery's impact on women, men, elders, and children. The artist will give talks and an open studio <strong>for</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> community will be conducted during <strong>the</strong> Rain Garden's creation. <strong>Arts</strong>-integrated workshops <strong>for</strong> multicultural<br />

youth will provide exposure to an art medium not taught in local public schools. An exhibition is planned at <strong>the</strong><br />

state museum in Albany.<br />

Coleman Center <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> (aka Coleman Center <strong>for</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> And Culture)<br />

$25,000 York, AL<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> project "Somewhere is Here: A Town Called York." Visual and per<strong>for</strong>ming artist Tameka Norris<br />

will embark on a year-long intervention in which she will immerse herself into <strong>the</strong> social, political, and cultural<br />

fabric of York, a small town in Alabama. These interactions will serve as a backdrop <strong>for</strong> Norris to explore her own<br />

rural Sou<strong>the</strong>rn roots. The interactions will be filmed, and made available as short vignettes on small screens<br />

throughout <strong>the</strong> town. The project will culminate in a collaborative narrative film.<br />

County of Allegheny, Pennsylvania<br />

$20,000 Pittsburgh, PA<br />

To support Pittsburgh International Airport's artist residency program. Art in <strong>the</strong> Airport will provide <strong>the</strong><br />

selected artist with workspace and materials to create a permanent installation in <strong>the</strong> medium of his or her<br />

choice. As part of <strong>the</strong> conceptualization process, <strong>the</strong> artist will engage various communities and audiences at <strong>the</strong><br />

airport through self-directed creative exercises and events. Airport staff will serve as docents <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> events.<br />

Public engagement will include an artist talk and a press event.<br />

Some details of <strong>the</strong> projects listed are subject to change, contingent upon prior <strong>Arts</strong> <strong>Endowment</strong> approval. In<strong>for</strong>mation is current as of<br />
