$20,000 Detroit, MI<br />

To support Voices In The Mirror. Students of all ages will learn a wide range of <strong>the</strong>ater and puppetry skills and<br />

explore <strong>the</strong>mes of identity, individuality, community, and commonality. Program components will include Now<br />

Playing, an introductory <strong>the</strong>ater program <strong>for</strong> young elementary students; and Being On Stage, an after-school<br />

per<strong>for</strong>ming arts program <strong>for</strong> upper elementary students. Additional program components will include Teatro de<br />

la Vida <strong>for</strong> middle school students and <strong>the</strong> Matrix Teen Company, a playwriting and touring company <strong>for</strong> older<br />

teens. In collaboration with community partners, professional artists from Matrix's School of Theatre will work<br />

with youth to write and produce plays that guide participants and audience members in exploring <strong>the</strong> history of<br />

Detroit and <strong>the</strong>ir own personal narratives to create who <strong>the</strong>y, as residents of Detroit, wish to become.<br />

Midwest Young Artists (aka MYA)<br />

$10,000 Highwood, IL<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> Chamber Music Program. Middle and high school students will receive weekly instrumental<br />

music coaching and participate in rehearsals of small group ensembles. From trios to small chamber orchestras,<br />

<strong>the</strong> program offers placement <strong>for</strong> percussion, saxophone, strings, piano, woodwinds, harp, and brass players.<br />

The small size of a chamber ensemble enables <strong>the</strong> coach and students to delve deeply into expressiveness and<br />

improvisation as well as artistic and interpersonal communication. To supplement <strong>the</strong> weekly coaching and<br />

various per<strong>for</strong>mance opportunities, regularly scheduled master classes are offered by per<strong>for</strong>mer educators from<br />

universities such as DePaul, Northwestern, Roosevelt, and University of Illinois, and by professional musicians<br />

from organizations such as Chicago Chamber Musicians, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and Chicago Lyric Opera.<br />

Mosaic Youth Theater of Detroit (aka Mosaic)<br />

$55,000 Detroit, MI<br />

To support Mosaic Core Training Program, a multi-phase, <strong>the</strong>ater-based per<strong>for</strong>ming arts program <strong>for</strong> youth.<br />

Professional actors and teaching artists will provide students with intensive acting, vocal, and technical <strong>the</strong>ater<br />

training leading to <strong>the</strong> creation and per<strong>for</strong>mance of an original musical that will be per<strong>for</strong>med at <strong>the</strong> Detroit<br />

Institute of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> and toured at universities nationwide. The audition-based program, provided free to<br />

participants, is divided into three phases serving intermediate level youth, year-round training <strong>for</strong> advanced<br />

level youth, and a paid per<strong>for</strong>mance ensemble. In addition to artistic training, all Core Program young artists<br />

receive support from academic mentors and participate in college readiness and professional development<br />

activities.<br />

<strong>National</strong> Dance Institute New Mexico (aka NDI New Mexico, NDI-NM)<br />

$35,000 Santa Fe, NM<br />

To support Dancing to Excellence, a pre-professional dance program. Youth in four companies -Celebration<br />

Team, Junior Company, Apprentice Company, and Company Xcel-will participate in advanced-level technique<br />

classes, taught by certified dance instructors, in ballet, jazz, and modern dance. Company XCel students also will<br />

receive indvidualized college and career guidance. All students will participate in master classes and per<strong>for</strong>m<br />

with guest artists and have <strong>the</strong> opportunity to attend a summer intensive program. Students will choreograph<br />

and per<strong>for</strong>m <strong>the</strong>ir work in a variety of settings, including a year end Senior Showcase.<br />

New Urban <strong>Arts</strong> (aka New Urban <strong>Arts</strong>)<br />

$15,000 Providence, RI<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> Youth Mentorship in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> program and <strong>the</strong> Summer Art Internship program <strong>for</strong> teens. Under<br />

<strong>the</strong> mentorship of professional artists in <strong>the</strong> community, students will gain skills in photography, drawing,<br />

painting, sculpture, fashion design, printmaking, screen printing, poetry/spoken-word, video, and digital media.<br />

Students will display work through multiple plat<strong>for</strong>ms including gallery exhibitions, student publications, fashion<br />
