Healdsburg Jazz Festival, Inc. (aka Healdsburg Jazz)<br />

$20,000 Healdsburg, CA<br />

To support tributes to <strong>the</strong> Heath bro<strong>the</strong>rs and NEA Jazz Master Bobby Hutcherson. Programming plans <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

two-day festival will include a small ensemble per<strong>for</strong>mance by NEA Jazz Master Jimmy Heath and his bro<strong>the</strong>r<br />

Albert "Tootie" Heath.The tribute to <strong>the</strong> late Bobby Hutcherson will feature vibraphonist Steve Nelson alongside<br />

Renee Rosnes, Ray Drummond, and Victor Lewis <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> presentation of a repertoire comprised of Hutcherson's<br />

compositions as well as recent works dedicated to him.<br />

Heifetz International Music Institute, Inc. (aka Heifetz Institute)<br />

$25,000 Staunton, VA<br />

To support per<strong>for</strong>mance and communication training <strong>for</strong> musicians. Under <strong>the</strong> artistic direction of founder<br />

Daniel Heifetz, <strong>the</strong> summer program will train artists in <strong>the</strong> areas of voice, freedom of expression, public<br />

speaking, movement, and drama. Public per<strong>for</strong>mances will take place in traditional concert halls as well as in<br />

clubs, bars, schools, churches, libraries, senior centers, and nursing homes. A new program, HeifetzPEG<br />

(Program <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> Exceptionally Gifted), <strong>for</strong> young string musicians between <strong>the</strong> ages of eight and thirteen will be<br />

piloted. In addition, <strong>the</strong> Heifetz on Tour educational program will provide career development training to<br />

prepare alumni <strong>for</strong> school and community outreach events in various venues throughout <strong>the</strong> year.<br />

Hesston College<br />

$10,000 Hesston, KS<br />

To support concert and residency activities by <strong>the</strong> string quintet Sybarite 5 presented by <strong>the</strong> Hesston-Be<strong>the</strong>l<br />

Per<strong>for</strong>ming <strong>Arts</strong> Series. Sybarite 5, noted <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir wide-ranging repertoire from Mozart to Radiohead, was <strong>the</strong><br />

first string quintet to win <strong>the</strong> Concert Artists Guild International Competition. Plans <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> multi-day residency<br />

may include educational per<strong>for</strong>mances <strong>for</strong> public school students, pop-up concerts on <strong>the</strong> campuses of Hesston<br />

College and Be<strong>the</strong>l College, a program <strong>for</strong> older adults, and a master class <strong>for</strong> strings students. A concert on <strong>the</strong><br />

campus of Hesston College will culminate <strong>the</strong> residency.<br />

Hot Summer Jazz Festival (aka Twin Cities Jazz Festival)<br />

$10,000 Maplewood, MN<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> Twin Cities Jazz Festival. Multi-day programming will include more than 100 free per<strong>for</strong>mances<br />

by as many as 400 jazz musicians from Minnesota, such as Debbie Duncan and Patty and Ricky Peterson, as well<br />

as national and international artists such as NEA Jazz Masters Chick Corea and McCoy Tyner, Anat Cohen, Roy<br />

Hargrove, and Terrell Staf<strong>for</strong>d. Per<strong>for</strong>mances will take place in more than 30 indoor and outdoor venues across<br />

St. Paul's Lowertown, Downtown, and o<strong>the</strong>r neighborhoods including Kellogg Park, Mears Park, and Rice Park.<br />

Ancillary free educational outreach activities may include clinics <strong>for</strong> youth and college-age musicians, dance<br />

events offered by <strong>the</strong> Ordway Center <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> Per<strong>for</strong>ming <strong>Arts</strong>, musical per<strong>for</strong>mances at St. Paul libraries, and<br />

nightly jam sessions at Bedlam Theater.<br />

International Music Foundation<br />

$12,500 Chicago, IL<br />

To support free chamber summer concert per<strong>for</strong>mances at <strong>the</strong> historic St. James Ca<strong>the</strong>dral in downtown<br />

Chicago and <strong>the</strong> Make Music Chicago festival. Early-evening chamber concerts will be presented every Tuesday<br />

during <strong>the</strong> summer months with artists selected from a roster of musicians from <strong>the</strong> Chicago area, as well as<br />
