To support <strong>the</strong> publication and promotion of new books of poetry in print and electronic <strong>for</strong>mats, as well as <strong>the</strong><br />

journal "Fence" and an online site <strong>for</strong> poetry criticism. The press plans to publish books by such authors as<br />

Walter Benjamin (in translation from <strong>the</strong> German), Harmony Holiday, Douglas Kearney, and Steven Alvarez. The<br />

biannual journal features poetry, fiction, art, and criticism, and <strong>the</strong> online site "The Constant Critic" offers<br />

bimonthly reviews of new poetry titles.<br />

Four Way Books, Inc. (aka Four Way Books)<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> publication and promotion of books of poetry and short fiction. The press plans to publish poetry<br />

collections by such authors as Maggie Anderson, Andrea Cohen, Vincent Guerra, Nathan McClain, Kamilah Aisha<br />

Moon, Christina Pugh, and Allison Benis White, as well as a short story collection by Glen Pourciau. The books<br />

will be promoted on social media, through readings and events across <strong>the</strong> country, and on digital plat<strong>for</strong>ms,<br />

among o<strong>the</strong>r means.<br />

Graywolf Press<br />

$80,000 Minneapolis, MN<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> publication and promotion of books of fiction. The press plans to publish books by authors<br />

Percival Everett, John Haskell, Daisy Johnson, Paul Kingsnorth, J. Robert Lennon, Fiona Maazel, Carmen Maria<br />

Machado, Jon Raymond, and Deb Olin Unferth, as well as books in translation by Han Yujoo (South Korea) and<br />

Carl Frode Tiller (Norway). The press's website will feature content such as book excerpts, author interviews,<br />

and craft essays, and <strong>the</strong> books also will be promoted through social media and author readings and events.<br />

Guernica Inc. (aka Guernica Magazine)<br />

$10,000 New York, NY<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> publication of <strong>the</strong> online magazine "Guernica," and related activities. Guernica publishes<br />

reportage, narrative, memoir, fiction, and poetry from both established and emerging writers. In addition to<br />

releasing its online magazine twice a month, "Guernica" provides new content each day on its website and<br />

releases quarterly <strong>the</strong>med special issues.<br />

Gulf Coast: A Journal of Literature & Fine <strong>Arts</strong> (aka Gulf Coast)<br />

$10,000 Houston, TX<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> publication of <strong>the</strong> journal "Gulf Coast" and <strong>the</strong> web-based "GC Online." The publications feature<br />

original fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and critical writing. In an ef<strong>for</strong>t to provide a revitalized plat<strong>for</strong>m <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

discussion of contemporary literature, <strong>the</strong> journal will update <strong>the</strong> "Reviews and Interviews" section of its<br />

website to showcase more regular book reviews, including reviews of work by emerging writers.<br />

Illinois State University (On behalf of Obsidian)<br />

$10,000 Normal, IL<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> journal "Obsidian." Focusing on literature and arts in <strong>the</strong> African diaspora, recent contributors<br />

include such writers as Elizabeth Alexander, Octavia Butler, Wanda Coleman, Terrance Hayes, Essex Hemphill,<br />

Yusef Komunyakaa, Brenda Marie Osbey, and Claudia Rankine. The journal will be promoted through enhanced<br />

social media ef<strong>for</strong>ts, as well as at literary conferences.<br />

Kenyon Review<br />

$20,000 Gambier, OH<br />
