To support spoken-word artist residencies at AIR Serenbe. An advisory council of artists and scholars will choose<br />
residents, with an emphasis placed on women and artists of color, as well as artists living and working in<br />
underserved communities. AIR Serenbe will provide residents live/work cottages, a stipend, and opportunities to<br />
engage with local audiences.<br />
Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Inc. (aka Skowhegan)<br />
$40,000 Madison, ME<br />
To support residencies <strong>for</strong> emerging artists. Resident artists, working beside established faculty artists, will<br />
receive a dedicated studio, as well as room and board. Participants also will have access to a sculpture shop,<br />
fresco studio, media lab, and art library.<br />
University of Chicago<br />
$20,000 Chicago, IL<br />
To support residencies <strong>for</strong> emerging artists and related activities. The program will award a ten-month projectbased<br />
residency to several non-matriculating artists and collaborative artist teams. Preference will be given to<br />
artists who examine <strong>the</strong>mes relevant to Chicago's South Side communities; encourage open, ongoing, and active<br />
community participation in collective change; and deepen understanding of race, class, gender, and sexual<br />
identities.<br />
Vermont Studio Center, Inc. (aka VSC)<br />
$25,000 Johnson, VT<br />
To support residencies and related activities <strong>for</strong> visual artists and writers who are parents of young children.<br />
Participating artists will be provided private studios, housing, and stipends, as well as mentorship opportunities<br />
with visiting established artists. A stipend will be given to address an artist's family needs, such as childcare,<br />
companion travel, renting nearby accommodations, and o<strong>the</strong>r expenses associated with time away from <strong>the</strong>ir<br />
family. Through partnerships with local schools and art centers, opportunities will be available <strong>for</strong> artists to<br />
engage with <strong>the</strong> community through presentations, workshops, and readings.<br />
Vineyard <strong>Arts</strong> Project Limited (aka Vineyard <strong>Arts</strong> Project)<br />
$15,000 Edgartown, MA<br />
To support residencies <strong>for</strong> dance and <strong>the</strong>ater artists. Participating artists will be provided private studios,<br />
housing, and stipends, as well as mentorship opportunities with visiting established artists. VAPL will host instudio<br />
per<strong>for</strong>mances or readings open to <strong>the</strong> public at a pay-what-you-can admission fee.<br />
Virginia Center <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> Creative <strong>Arts</strong> (aka VCCA)<br />
$15,000 Amherst, VA<br />
To support residencies <strong>for</strong> military veteran artists. Stipends will be awarded to cover <strong>the</strong> purchase of materials,<br />
and defray living expenses. VCCA will partner with <strong>the</strong> <strong>National</strong> Veterans Art Museum in Chicago and Riverviews<br />
<strong>Arts</strong>pace in Lynchburg, Virginia, to present exhibitions at both venues of <strong>the</strong> work <strong>the</strong> artists produce during<br />
<strong>the</strong>ir residencies.<br />
Wave Farm Inc. (aka Wave Farm)<br />
$15,000 Acra, NY<br />
To support residencies <strong>for</strong> artists to create new transmission artworks and conduct research about <strong>the</strong> genre.<br />
Resident artists will receive a stipend and access to a wide array of transmission technologies, including an FM<br />
radio station. Artists will per<strong>for</strong>m, be interviewed, and create programming <strong>for</strong> public broadcast. Additional<br />
opportunities <strong>for</strong> public engagement will be possible through workshop presentations.<br />
