artists from across <strong>the</strong> country. A one-day free festival in neighborhoods around <strong>the</strong> city will celebrate <strong>the</strong><br />

summer solstice. In addition to live audiences, listening audiences will be reached by WFMT-FM public radio<br />

broadcasts.<br />

Irving S. Gilmore International Keyboard Festival (aka The Gilmore)<br />

$20,000 Kalamazoo, MI<br />

To support presentations of piano recitals with related educational activities. Plans include presentations in <strong>the</strong><br />

Piano Masters and Rising Stars recital series. Sir Andras Schiff will be featured in <strong>the</strong> Piano Masters series. Artists<br />

in <strong>the</strong> Rising Stars series will include Seong-Jin Cho, Sara Daneshpour, Roman Rabinovich, and Llewellyn Sanchez-<br />

Werner. Educational outreach activities will include pre-concert talks by a musicologist, a high school residency<br />

conducted by <strong>the</strong> Gilmore education department, and discounted tickets to students. Selections from <strong>the</strong><br />

recitals may be live-streamed on <strong>the</strong> Gilmore website and aired later on American Public Media's Per<strong>for</strong>mance<br />

Today radio program.<br />

Jazz Foundation of America, Inc. (aka Jazz Foundation of America)<br />

$15,000 New York, NY<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> Gig Fund program. Free-of-charge blues and jazz per<strong>for</strong>mances in non-traditional per<strong>for</strong>mance<br />

spaces in selected cities will be curated to connect underserved artists with underserved audiences. Each<br />

engagement will be at least an hour-long and feature musicians aged 40 and older with demonstrated financial<br />

need who reside in <strong>the</strong> participating cities. Intergenerational collaborations among artists are encouraged.<br />

Confirmed participating artists include Najite Agindotan, Kim Clarke, Wayne Escoffery, and Ray Mantilla.<br />

Per<strong>for</strong>mances will take place at various partner organizations' venues such as <strong>the</strong> Chicago Public Library, <strong>the</strong><br />

American Cancer Society Patrick F. Taylor Hope Lodge in New Orleans, ,Grow NYC, <strong>the</strong> Goddard Riverside<br />

Community Center, and Riverbank State Park in Harlem (all in New York) as well as <strong>the</strong>se Michigan partners: <strong>the</strong><br />

Hazel Park District Library in Hazel Park, <strong>the</strong> Adrian District Library in Adrian, and <strong>the</strong> Thomas Jefferson Branch<br />

Library in Detroit.<br />

Jazz Gallery<br />

$20,000 New York, NY<br />

To support The Shape of Jazz To Come. An expansion of <strong>the</strong> organization's longstanding Debut Series, this<br />

program will offer as many as 60 Thursday evening per<strong>for</strong>mance opportunities within one year <strong>for</strong> emerging<br />

artists at <strong>the</strong> Jazz Gallery and selected partner venues. O<strong>the</strong>r project components include business and<br />

marketing skills training <strong>for</strong> emerging artists; opening <strong>the</strong> venue to emerging artists <strong>for</strong> rehearsals and<br />

workshops at no charge; and a mentorship program pairing young artists with seasoned jazz musicians such as<br />

Orrin Evans, Steve Lehman, and Yosvany Terry. Free admission will be offered to some per<strong>for</strong>mances by newly<br />

discovered artists. Organizational partners include <strong>the</strong> <strong>National</strong> Jazz Museum in Harlem, SEEDS and ShapeShifter<br />

Lab in Brooklyn, as well as <strong>the</strong> SOUTH jazz venue in Philadelphia.<br />

Jazz at Lincoln Center, Inc. (aka JALC)<br />

$50,000 New York, NY<br />

To support two distinct Jazz at Lincoln Center per<strong>for</strong>mance series. The Jazz and Popular Song Series, curated by<br />

pianist Michael Feinstein, will include concerts with <strong>the</strong>mes such as The Un<strong>for</strong>gettable Nat King Cole; The Music<br />

of Mel Torme; and Ella on My Mind, a celebration of Ella Fitzgerald. The Jazz Innovator Series will include The<br />

Latin Side of Dizzy with Carlos Henriquez program dedicated to Dizzy Gillespie's Latin Jazz-inspired repertoire as<br />

well as a Round Midnight: Monk's Legacy concert with two featured pianists, teenage prodigy Joey Alexander<br />

from Indonesia and Sullivan Fortner from New Orleans. The series will be rounded out with a per<strong>for</strong>mance by<br />

saxophonist Joshua Redman and his Still Dreaming Quartet interpreting repertoire from <strong>the</strong> Old and New<br />
