To support services and technical assistance to <strong>the</strong> choral field. Activities will include an annual conference, <strong>the</strong><br />

online Chorus Management Institute, publications, conducting master classes, and leadership development<br />

<strong>for</strong>ums <strong>for</strong> chorus managers and leaders in <strong>the</strong> field. Published quarterly, "The Voice" will highlight important<br />

issues and news <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> choral field including findings and recommendations based on discussions from <strong>the</strong> April<br />

2016 <strong>for</strong>um on Sustaining <strong>the</strong> Chorus Ecosystem held at Yale School of Music.<br />

Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra<br />

$40,000 Cincinnati, OH<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> Classical Roots concert. Under <strong>the</strong> direction of Cincinnati Pops conductor John Morris Russell, <strong>the</strong><br />

concert will feature <strong>the</strong> orchestra along with guest artists and <strong>the</strong> Classical Roots Community Mass Choir, which<br />

comprises more than 100 singers from local churches. The concert will take place in <strong>the</strong> Crossroads Church and<br />

will be a communitywide celebration of African-American musical heritage.<br />

Columbia University in <strong>the</strong> City of New York (On behalf of Miller Theatre)<br />

$30,000 New York, NY<br />

To support artist fees and production expenses associated with <strong>the</strong> Conversations Initiative at Miller Theatre.<br />

The initiative will feature a variety of per<strong>for</strong>mance series where musicians and composers are invited to speak<br />

onstage about <strong>the</strong> music <strong>the</strong>y write and per<strong>for</strong>m. Composer Portrait Concerts will feature entire programs of a<br />

single composer. Pop-Up Concerts are free, hour-long programs of contemporary chamber music in a salon<br />

<strong>for</strong>mat with audience members seated onstage alongside musicians. A new series, American Voices, will explore<br />

<strong>the</strong> unique position of string quartets in contemporary classical music in America. The series will feature<br />

commissions, per<strong>for</strong>mances of recent works, new interpretations of <strong>the</strong> standard repertoire, and panel<br />

discussions with composers, ensemble members, and experts in <strong>the</strong> field.<br />

Concert Artists Guild, Inc. (aka CAG)<br />

$10,000 New York, NY<br />

To support touring engagements of roster artists. In diverse venues across <strong>the</strong> country, per<strong>for</strong>mance<br />

opportunities will enable artists and ensembles on <strong>the</strong> guild's roster to polish <strong>the</strong>ir per<strong>for</strong>mance and<br />

communication skills. The guild's mentorship supports artists as <strong>the</strong>y prepare programs, go on tour, and refine<br />

<strong>the</strong> educational and outreach aspects of <strong>the</strong>ir presentations.<br />

Copland House<br />

$10,000 Peekskill, NY<br />

To support per<strong>for</strong>mances of American music per<strong>for</strong>med by <strong>the</strong> Music from Copland House ensemble with<br />

related educational activities. In addition to <strong>the</strong> music of Aaron Copland, programs will feature music by<br />

composers such as Derek Bermel, Richard Danielpour, Gabriela Lena Frank, Paul Moravec, Tamar Muskal, Rob<br />

Schwimmer, and William <strong>Grant</strong> Still. Concerts will take place at <strong>the</strong> historic Merestead estate in Mount Kisco,<br />

New York, at Copland's <strong>for</strong>mer home in Cortlandt Manor, New York, and at <strong>the</strong> Lyndhurst estate in Tarrytown,<br />

New York. Educational activities will include commentary during per<strong>for</strong>mances and question-and-answer<br />

discussions. Concerts will be recorded <strong>for</strong> future broadcast on WWFM public radio.<br />

Cuyahoga Community College Foundation (On behalf of Tri-C JazzFest Cleveland)<br />

$20,000 Cleveland, OH<br />

To support Tri-C JazzFest. The educational jazz festival will offer more than ten ticketed per<strong>for</strong>mances in three<br />

Playhouse Square <strong>the</strong>aters, curated to acknowledge <strong>the</strong> <strong>2017</strong> centennials of NEA Jazz Masters Ella Fitzgerald and<br />

Dizzy Gillespie as well as of Tadd Dameron and Thelonious Monk. More than 20 free outdoor concerts will<br />
