$25,000 Juneau, AK<br />

To support an artist residency by Ping Chong + Company in Juneau, Alaska, and associated outreach activities.<br />

Working with <strong>the</strong> ethnically diverse population of a geographically remote community, company artists will<br />

create and premiere a new interview-based <strong>the</strong>ater work, capturing personal stories from past and present<br />

residents of Juneau's historically indigenous district. The residency work will coincide with ongoing urban<br />

revitalization plans <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> area.<br />

Pasadena <strong>Arts</strong> Council<br />

$40,000 Pasadena, CA<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> AxS Festival <strong>2017</strong>. The multidisciplinary festival's programming will explore <strong>the</strong> intersections of<br />

art and science. The festival is produced through partnerships among multiple arts and science institutions, and<br />

includes programmatic disciplines such as visual arts, <strong>the</strong>ater, dance, music, spoken-word, photography, history,<br />

science, literature, film, and architecture. The festival also will feature newly commissioned artworks and<br />

per<strong>for</strong>mances, as well as educational programming.<br />

Public Corporation <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> of <strong>the</strong> City of Long Beach (aka <strong>Arts</strong> Council <strong>for</strong> Long Beach)<br />

$20,000 Long Beach, CA<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> Long Beach Creative Collaborations. The <strong>Arts</strong> Council <strong>for</strong> Long Beach will implement creative<br />

placemaking projects in Long Beach. Projects including as many as eight murals will address organizational<br />

objectives related to economic development, urban beautification, and pedestrian access. Potential partners in<br />

<strong>the</strong> Cambodia Town neighborhood will include local artists, arts and cultural organizations, local government<br />

agencies and elected officials, business improvement districts, entrepreneurs, developers, neighborhood<br />

organizations, and social service agencies. Ongoing community planning ef<strong>for</strong>ts will encourage <strong>the</strong> future<br />

facilitation of similar projects in additional Long Beach neighborhoods.<br />

Scottsdale Cultural Council<br />

$30,000 Scottsdale, AZ<br />

To support Canal Convergence: Water + Art + Light, a public art project within Arizona's canal network, and<br />

associated outreach activities. Produced as a partnership between <strong>the</strong> local cultural council and public utility<br />

company, <strong>the</strong> program will activate an urban space with public arts and cultural engagement. Canal<br />

Convergence will feature temporary, interactive art installations through commissioned work by local and<br />

international artists. Additionally, educational and community programming will include a variety of arts<br />

workshops as well as activities designed to address topics such as water conservation and sustainability.<br />

Shreveport Regional <strong>Arts</strong> Council (aka SRAC)<br />

$60,000 Shreveport, LA<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> commission of artists to create iconic frames <strong>for</strong> Nick Cave's "Beaded Blankets" and associated<br />

activities. Selected artists will design and fabricate frames intended to transition <strong>the</strong> existing "Beaded Blankets"<br />

into outdoor public artworks. "Beaded Blankets," a series of art pieces created during a residency by sculptor,<br />

dancer, and per<strong>for</strong>mance artist Nick Cave, represent <strong>the</strong> stories of residents of four social service organizations<br />

housed in Shreveport Common. Shreveport Common is a <strong>for</strong>merly blighted nine-block area that is being<br />

redeveloped utilizing creative placemaking principles. Per<strong>for</strong>ming artists also will be selected to per<strong>for</strong>m/record<br />

<strong>the</strong> individual stories of <strong>the</strong> artworks. Additional elements may include a QR-code activated app, biking/walking<br />

tours, and school tours and activities.<br />

Westchester <strong>Arts</strong> Council, Inc. (aka <strong>Arts</strong>Westchester)<br />

$25,000 White Plains, NY<br />
