Peter Britt Gardens Music and <strong>Arts</strong> Festival Association (aka Britt Music & <strong>Arts</strong> Festival)<br />

$10,000 Med<strong>for</strong>d, OR<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> commission of a multimedia dance work by artists with disabilities and related activities. Artists<br />

Alice Sheppard, Michael Maag, and John Jeanrenaud, all wheelchair users, will create and per<strong>for</strong>m "Descent -<br />

Kinetic Light" at Crater Per<strong>for</strong>ming <strong>Arts</strong> Center. Led by Sheppard, dancers will use a variety of mobility devices to<br />

dance on a ramped stage, interacting with light and projections of Auguste Rodin's sculptures of incomplete<br />

human <strong>for</strong>ms. Outreach activities including lecture-demonstrations and master classes in dance techniques with<br />

mobility devices are planned.<br />

PlatteForum (aka NA)<br />

$10,000 Denver, CO<br />

To support Learning Lab, a multidisciplinary youth arts program. Professional artists-in-residence at PlatteForum<br />

will be matched with at-risk youth <strong>for</strong> class instruction. Utilizing a process-based learning model, <strong>the</strong> youth will<br />

create new artworks and experiment with varied genres such as digital media, per<strong>for</strong>mance, animation,<br />

filmmaking, and creative writing to produce <strong>the</strong>ir own body of work that will be presented to <strong>the</strong> public. All of<br />

<strong>the</strong> predominantly minority youth are eligible <strong>for</strong> free or reduced-cost lunches in school.<br />

Plumas County <strong>Arts</strong> Commission (aka Plumas <strong>Arts</strong>)<br />

$10,000 Quincy, CA<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> design and installation of a mural on <strong>the</strong> historic Town Hall Theatre in rural Quincy, Cali<strong>for</strong>nia,<br />

and associated activities. The mural will be designed through a community engagement process, with input<br />

ga<strong>the</strong>red through a series of public meetings. Artist Rafael Blanco will use <strong>the</strong> submitted words, sketches,<br />

photographs, and individual stories to create a concept drawing, which will be reviewed by community <strong>for</strong>ums.<br />

Lecture-demonstrations led by <strong>the</strong> artist will detail <strong>the</strong> process of a large-scale painting and mural production<br />

<strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> community.<br />

Rapid City Fine <strong>Arts</strong> Council, Inc. (aka Rapid City <strong>Arts</strong> Council)<br />

$10,000 Rapid City, SD<br />

To support Native POP, a festival celebrating Native American artists, per<strong>for</strong>mers, and culture bearers, with<br />

associated outreach activities. The free event will showcase <strong>the</strong> work of Great Plains Native American artists in<br />

Main Street Square, <strong>the</strong> downtown public ga<strong>the</strong>ring space in Rapid City, South Dakota. Native POP will feature<br />

an exhibition, per<strong>for</strong>mances, film festival, culture bearer activities, and displays. The festival's organizing<br />

committee will conduct outreach and marketing ef<strong>for</strong>ts to <strong>the</strong> nearby Native American reservations to promote<br />

<strong>the</strong> event.<br />

Rider University<br />

$10,000 Lawrenceville, NJ<br />

To support a per<strong>for</strong>mance by <strong>the</strong> Bang on a Can All-Stars. "Anthracite Fields" by composer Julia Wolfe will be<br />

per<strong>for</strong>med with <strong>the</strong> support of <strong>the</strong> university's Westminster Choir <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> general public and <strong>for</strong> students and<br />

teachers from <strong>the</strong> Trenton Public Schools. "Anthracite Fields" commemorates Pennsylvania's historic coal mining<br />

industry and will be presented at <strong>the</strong> historic Roebling Wire Works factory. Pre- and post-per<strong>for</strong>mance activities<br />

will be tailored to <strong>the</strong> reach a low-income Trenton community that has limited access to <strong>the</strong> arts.<br />

Riverside Art Museum (aka RAM)<br />
