Luminary, Inc (aka The Luminary)<br />
$25,000 St. Louis, MO<br />
To support an international artist-in-residence program. Artists, curators, and critics will receive a stipend,<br />
housing, materials, facility and equipment access, technical assistance, and professional development<br />
opportunities to create new work. The program will include an exchange component, sending one artist abroad<br />
and welcoming one artist to St. Louis. The artists will engage directly with <strong>the</strong> community, working alongside<br />
local artists in <strong>the</strong> creation and presentation of new work.<br />
Lux Art Institute<br />
$20,000 Encinitas, CA<br />
To support an international residency program. The program will offer artists from countries such as Israel,<br />
India, and <strong>the</strong> United Kingdom, <strong>the</strong> opportunity to participate in a fully funded, month-long residency.<br />
Participating artists have not worked in Sou<strong>the</strong>rn Cali<strong>for</strong>nia be<strong>for</strong>e, and will be encouraged to experiment with<br />
new materials. Open studio hours will allow <strong>the</strong> public to directly engage with <strong>the</strong> artists.<br />
MAK Center <strong>for</strong> Art and Architecture<br />
$55,000 West Hollywood, CA<br />
To support <strong>the</strong> exhibition and catalogue <strong>for</strong> "How to Read El Pato Pascual: Disney's Latin America and Latin<br />
America's Disney." The exhibition will present work by artists in a variety of mediums that respond to <strong>the</strong> Walt<br />
Disney Company's influence in Latin America. From its earliest years, <strong>the</strong> entertainment company has looked to<br />
Mexico, <strong>the</strong> Caribbean, and Central and South America <strong>for</strong> content, narratives, and characters: beginning with<br />
Donald Duck's first role in <strong>the</strong> 1937 Mexican-<strong>the</strong>med "Don Donald" continuing through <strong>the</strong> recent unsuccessful<br />
attempt to trademark The Day of <strong>the</strong> Dead holiday to support a film release. The exhibition will feature<br />
approximately 100 works by artists such as Liliana Porter (Argentina), Enrique Chagoya (Mexico/USA), Einar and<br />
James de la Torre (Mexico), Arturo Herrera (Venezuela), Rafael Montanes Ortiz (Puerto Rico) and many o<strong>the</strong>rs.<br />
Mattress Factory, Ltd. (aka Mattress Factory)<br />
$50,000 Pittsburgh, PA<br />
To support an exhibition marking <strong>the</strong> museum's 40th anniversary. The project will include a residency<br />
component, featuring new work created by artists who had previously exhibited at <strong>the</strong> museum. Participating<br />
artists may include Vito Acconci, Yoan Capote, David Ellis, Vanessa German, Greer Lankton, Cady Noland, Roman<br />
Ondak, and Meg Webster. Extensive educational programming is planned, including artist talks and activities<br />
directed to teens and families. Staff also will work with artists to develop a variety of programs <strong>for</strong> all ages,<br />
enabling visitors to understand and participate in <strong>the</strong> artists' creative practice.<br />
Midway Contemporary Art (aka Midway)<br />
$20,000 Minneapolis, MN<br />
To support a catalogue and a solo exhibition series by emerging U.S. and international artists. Exhibitions will<br />
feature newly created works that present experimental ideas or new directions <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> artists. Selected artists<br />
will receive a stipend, production and travel costs, and technical support. Plans <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> series include exhibitions<br />
of work by Hirsch Perlman and Lisa Lapinski, among o<strong>the</strong>rs. The exhibitions will be accompanied by public<br />
presentations, including artist and curatorial talks, and film screenings.<br />
New Art Publications, Inc. (aka BOMB Magazine)<br />
$35,000 Brooklyn, NY<br />
To support <strong>the</strong> publication of "BOMB Magazine." Visual art content <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> quarterly publication will highlight<br />
<strong>the</strong> work of selected artists, both in print and online, through <strong>the</strong> presentation of interviews, artist portfolios,<br />
