The rising cost of operating the Morocco station prompted this decision.
The closing will not reduce the number of hours of radio programming
currently broadcast by shortwave: All programs currently broadcast from
the Morocco station will continue to be broadcast, either from other IBB
facilities or through lease arrangements.
Employees affected by the move will receive appropriate severance
compensation within the scope of U.S. Embassy agreements. The outstanding
work of these Moroccan station employees on behalf of U.S. international
broadcasting is greatly appreciated.

IBB TRANSMITTING STATION AT MOROCCO WILL CLOSE. The International
Broadcasting Bureau announces that its shortwave relay station at Briech,
Morocco, will cease operations in March 2008. Its ten 500-kilowatt
transmitters (currently operating at 250 kilowatts) are used for 20 VOA
and seven RFE/RL language services. This announcement comes shortly after
the 28 October closure of the IBB shortwave transmitting station at
Delano, California.

NETHERLANDS/PHILIPPINES/MADAGASCAR
Nach dem Sendeende von Radio Nederland Wereldomroep mit dem Ende der
laufenden Sommerperiode am 27. Okt. 2007 gibt es vorlaeufig keine
Kurzwellensendungen aus den Niederlanden mehr. Da die Sendestation Flevo
bei Zeewolde (Flevoland) von einer Privatgesellschaft betrieben wird,
musste die von Radio Nederland benoetige Sendezeit nach EU-Recht
ausgeschrieben werden. Das heisst aber nicht, Radio Netherlands Worldwide
die Station in Zukunft nicht mehr nutzen wird.
Die Grosssendeanlage liegt kaum 20 km nordoestlich der Studios von
Hilversum. Etwa 6 km nordwestlich von Zeewolde steht die Kurzwellenanlage,
etwa 8 km nordwestlich die Mittelwellenanlage fuer 747 und 1008 kHz. Die
Kurzwellenstation ging 1985 in Betrieb und loeste die bis dahin genutzten
Kurzwellensender in Lopik ab. Aufgebaut wurden von der Berliner Firma
Telefunken neben der erforderlichen Antennenanlage vier Sender mit einer
Leistung von jeweils 500 kW sowie ein 100 kW starker Reservesender. Dieser
Reservesender dient seit einigen Jahren fuer Ausstrahlungen im digitalen
Standard Digital Radio Mondiale. Die RNW-Sendungen in analoger
Amplitudenmodulation aus Flevo waren bereits im Herbst 2003 deutlich
eingeschraenkt worden.
Ab dem 28. Oktober 2007 ersetzt Radio Nederland Wereldomroep die Station
Flevo vor allem durch Kurzwellensender in Deutschland und der GUS. Eine
weitere Neuerung ist ein Sendezeittausch mit dem International
Broadcasting Bureau der USA: Radio Nederland Wereldomroep strahlt ueber
seine Sendestation Talata Volonondry auf Madagaskar 0400-0500 Uhr auf
12015 kHz das Programm von Radio Farda aus, und bekommt dafuer eine
Sendestunde 2059-2157 Uhr auf 9795 kHz fuer eine Sendung in Indonesisch
ueber die IBB-Kurzwellenstation in Tinang (Philippinen).
