Jerome Van der Linden from South Australia, a member from the 1960's has
discovered this gem.
"I was in Mackay last week and came across some new Sony Car Radios on the
market in Australia. They are model types CDX-GT160; CDX-GT260 and CDX-
GT360 (45, 50 & 52 Watts respectively): I believe they are all AM/FM/SW
with CD player including MP3. At least the 360 has a remote control. The
boxes do not describe their SW specs, but downloading the manual from the
Sony web site shows the coverage as SW1: 2940-7735 kHz; SW2 9500-18135
kHz (except for 10140-11575).
The place selling them is WOW Sight 'n Sound and they're on special, with
the lowest model being $114, and the dearest (the 360) being $159. That
compares with my dealer price from a Sony dealer of about $245. The RRP of
this model is $299. The Darwin WOW dealer had 78 initially, and now has
only 25 left. I suspect other stores like Strathfield should be able to
get them as they are listed as a stock item by Sony Australia.
The Sony URL I used for most of my info is

Right now I don't have a suitable car for one, but I'm more than tempted
to get my son in Mackay to pick one up for me. Even if the SW quality is
ordinary, it will enable one to receive RA or BBC, or in the NT the VL8
station on 5Mhz, and as such I imagine these things it would have a market
with the truckies?
I'm sure its just the normal car antenna connection: that's all that is
listed in the instruction manual the main product page lists these key
features:
52w x 4 S-MOSFET Power
Front Aux Input
CD-R/RW/MP3/WMA Playback
24 Bit Digital to Analogue Converter
Rear/Sub Switchable Pre-Out
FL/13 seg Display
EQ3 Stage 2SSIR-EXA Tuner
Presets: FM 18 / MW 6 / SW 12"
Thank you to Jerome! I will contact Sony ... see what we can find here in
Sydney.
RECEIVER NEWS
I just checked the Kneisner + Doering web page and noted a subtle change
regarding the KWZ-30/2. On the page that describes the receiver it used to
state that they had hoped to release the KWZ-30/2 in 2006, now it says
"There will be a successor to the KWZ-30. The release date is still
unknown."
