ST HELENA RADIO ST HELENA DAY <strong>2007</strong> WAS A SUCCESS, SAYS STATION<br />

Radio St Helena held a very successful Radio St Helena Day <strong>2007</strong> on<br />

Saturday. The worldwide broadcast on shortwave started at <strong>05</strong>30 UTC. The<br />

first direction was to New Zealand. Soon after starting the e- mails<br />

started coming in, with listeners informing the station of their reception<br />

quality.<br />

So far Radio St Helena has received over 200 e-mails from around the<br />

world, including from New Zealand, India, Europe, Japan, North America<br />

East and West, and South America.<br />

At the end of the transmission (which was around 0130 on Sunday), everyone<br />

present accumulated in the Studio and sung 'We wish you a merry Christmas'<br />

and the transmission was closed with the National Anthem.<br />

Station Manager Laura Lawrence says she is extremely pleased that the 10th<br />

Radio St Helena Day was a success and thanks everyone who was involved,<br />

especially to Mr Derek Richards for his assistance. It was an enjoyable<br />

evening and she hopes those who listened locally enjoyed it too.<br />

Walters, Tony Leo, Ralph Peters, Bert Constantine and John Moyce.<br />

For those who want to see photos of the island we just hrd this past<br />

weekend, try this web site.Jamestown photos are particularly interesting -<br />

the Jacobs Lad<strong>der</strong> looks like an interesting daily exercise (699 steps -<br />

602 ft vertical rise)! The houses in Jamestown look a lot like New England<br />

Colonial style, not unlike my ancestor's hometown in Newington, CT.<br />
