In 2002 enthusiastic on-site engineers offered to put Northern Star on air
on 216 kHz from this station, co-siting with the NRK MW station. But
Norkring apparently turned a blind eye to the proposal.
NRK may still have its eye on using 630, with 1200 kW being allocated in
the Geneva Plan 1974/1975. No alternative site has been mentioned for this
channel, but some years ago the remaining Stad Decca Site may have been
considered. (The relatively new NRK Rost 675 (1999-) is a former Decca
station)

The current 675 kHz transmitter on the Rost island near Bodo, inaugurated
in 1999, uses the former mast of a DECCA transmitter on 127.1 kHz, shut
down in 1997:
Some background about this new facility is included in an article about
the other part of this project, the 153 kHz transmitter at Ingoy which is
now the world's northernmost longwave and high-power transmitter (for the
now northernmost broadcast transmitters at all just refer to the WRTH, and
the northernmost SWBC transmitter of the world should be 5930 from
Monchegorsk, at about 67.55N):
The 630 kHz antenna at Vigra is featured on the website of Bernd
Waniewski, so I assume that it had been built together with the current
transmitter in 1985:
All this considered it would be no surprise if NRK indeed leaves 630.
Bernt Erfjord specified in his article about the Ingoy transmitter the
Arctic oceans as remaining target area for NRK's AM service, and 153 plus
675 should ensure this coverage without a need for another mediumwave
transmitter much more south. And I think that it is entirely pointless to
speculate that NRK could contract a new 1200 kW transmitter, even if
another DECCA mast could be used to run it. I just can't imagine that
after NRK abandoned 1314, the only Norwegian superpower station really
built, as just too expensive.
