Deutschlandfunk (DLF) is still - and since a few years - on 6.190 kc,
while DeutschlandRadio (Kultur) has to stop transmissions on 6.005 kc
(formerly RIAS) because of a damaged transmitter site in Berlin Britz. You
will find both programms on
(Tom DF5JL, ibid.)
I just would like to add that the Berlin Britz transmitter was damaged by
fire a short while ago, so Deutschlandradio management had to decide
whether to repair the site or not. Apparently, the latter decision was
taken because the investment was not regarded proportional to the actual
and the potential number of listeners on shortwave. Internet streaming
plays a much more important role in transmitting radio programmes abroad
these days, while internet activities are, by the way, supported by the
latest jurisdiction of the German Constitutional Court backing public
financing of public service radio stations, although there is enormous
pressure on German radio to lower costs. Deutschlandfunk and
Deutschlandradio Kultur are the only two radio programmes in Germany that
provide a country-wide service. Deutschlandradio is one radio station
providing these two programmes. This is why there is only one internet
website at for both programmes. So much for
"the rest of the story", so to speak. ;-)
AFN WUERZBURG TO CLOSE IN FISCAL YEAR 2008.
All US military facilities at Wuerzburg will be closed in 2008. It was
suspected from the start that this will affect AFN Wuerzburg as well, and
I just found an official confirmation. It's the very last item in this
document:

I could imagine that the Wuerzburg transmitters will be turned off when
the studios there will close down. Contradictory information circulates
about the site of these transmitters, but it appears that at some point
the own US forces transmitters at Leighton Barracks were replaced by the
