11760 and multiples of 34 kHz, as extremely distorted scratchy blobs,
altho weaker the further from 11760. Detectable on: 11624, 11658, 11692,
11726; 11794, 11828, 11862, 11896, 11930. These interfered with numerous
stations, including R. Rebelde on 11655, something in Chinese on 11825.
Some of them still audible at 1400 recheck, 11794 being much stronger than
11726. Next day, July 20 at 1320, however, no spurs audible, just 11760
kHz.
ETHIOPIA 5970, at 0357- UT, Voice of Tigray Revolution on July 04. A
presumed logging with and IS and ID in local language at fair level. I'll
have to check the IS against what's on the web. This is my first logging
from Vlad Titarev's dx location in Kremenchuk, Ukraine. This city is
located on the Dnipro (Dnieper) River several hundred km south of the
capital Kyiv (Kiev). I was able to use his AOR 7030 and Toshiba laptop.
Thanks for the hospitality, Vlad!.
GEORGIA [ABKHAZIA] 9495.58, at 0510- UT, Radio Apsua on July 04.
Abkhazia is normally spot-on 9494.75 and indeed they were there before
0500 UT, but when I rechecked, they had moved up to this frequency. The
usual somewhat distorted signal was heard in Russian. Local announcements
for Sochi heard at 0607, and weather at 0609 UT. Always a fascinating
station to monitor with their old 5kw jamming transmitter. They sure could
use cleaner modulation, though!.
As always, Vlad Titarev did much to facilitate my visit to Ukraine. We
spent a wonderful evening at his inner city oasis in the central Ukrainian
city of Kremenchuk. He has one of the most impressive dx shacks that I've
ever seen along with a decent urban antenna farm. The morning of the 4th
of July, I was able to briefly dx using his AOR 7030/laptop combination.
The results are listed below. Thanks, Vlad!
GERMANY/POLAND 9695, 1820- UT, Polish Radio on July 02. My earlier
observation was incorrect. Here there was a full program in Hebrew from
Poland, via Germany. The station calls itself, 'Kol Polin' and is
frequently mentioned. Very good signal except for a small amount of
splatter from 9690. ID'd at 1828 UT.
Some further research about VOA Ismaning brought up the cause of VOA
having to shut down its Okinawa facilities in 1977 (article VIII there):

Obviously no agreement on continuing the transmissions beyond this five
year period could be achieved. VOA Okinawa was, besides the modest
shortwave facilities, of course famous for the 1000 kW mediumwave
transmitter on 1178, frequently heard also in Europe when co-channel
Hoerby was off. As already discussed a couple of times this was one of
only four Continental 105B transmitters ever built, the others being Poro,
in use as recently as in 2005 during the relocation of the facilities,
Thailand (replaced by a new Harris and cannibalized for spare parts to
keep the Poro unit alive) and, here modified for longwave of course,
Erching near Munich (replaced by new Aholming site in 1988).
