Thanks to a tip from Carlos Goncalves-POR, subsequently also confirmed by
Mauno Ritola, Radio Ethiopia's domestic service (5990/7110/9704.2 kHz) is
now being heard with English at 1430 UT. A friend in East Africa this past
week confirmed that this is not an additional English prog, but a
replacement for the 1030 UT English, which is no longer aired. 1430 UT is
a better time for listeners in Europe to catch it, especially as sunset
draws earlier.
This is quite separate to the external service (7165/9560 kHz), with
English at 1600-1700 UT.
I can't remember if I have already reported this to DXLD, but the external
service has added an extra Somali broadcast at 1800-1900 UT, in addition
to the one at 1200-1300 UT.
GABON Radio Gabon booming in tonight (0515 UT) on 4777 kHz. (S9 to +20)
with French and West African music, enthusiastic male DJ.
(John Figliozzi-NY-USA, DXplorer Aug 11)
Thanks for the heads-up, John. Africans are rarely heard on the west
coast, especially on 60mb, but 4777 kHz is putting out a S7 to S8 signal,
but with seemingly low modulation. I can just make out some programming,
but that's about it. Very easily seen spike on my WinRadio 313e.
Interesting to test my 2 other receivers tonight ... 7030+ and the Icom
756Pro2. All three can hear a threshold signal. I'm not sure which is the
best at the moment. They all sound a little different. None is clearly
better.
The 313e is fun in that a lot can be done with the signal with a click of
the mouse bringing out the threshold a little better. The sync on it is
phenomenal, immediately syncing compared to the several seconds the 7030+
takes (and it's quite good too). Right now, I'd say any of the 3 is worthy
as the best receiver. They all sound darn good!
