BRUNEI On the shortwave scene, Radio Brunei was once a highly sought-
after prize. In 1964, a 10 kW transmitter was inaugurated at the
mediumwave facility located at Berakas on the edge of their capital city.
This unit carried a relay from the various mediumwave services and always
on the fixed frequency, 4865 kHz, in the tropical 60 metre band.
Five years later, another 10 kW shortwave transmitter was co-sited with
the mediumwave transmitter at Tutong on the central coast. This second
unit also carried a relay from the mediumwave programming that was
produced in the main studios in the capital city and always on the fixed
frequency 7215 kHz in the 41 metre international band.
According to tabulated information extracted from the World Radio TV
Handbook, the second shortwave transmitter was transferred from Tutong on
the central coast and re-installed at Berakas near the capital city in
1977.
However, both SW transmitters left the air, according to WRTH entries, in
the year 1979. Some twenty years later, Radio Brunei made the statement
that they did plan to return to the shortwave scene sometime, but, alas,
that event has never been fulfilled.
BURKINA FASO 5030 RTV Burkina at 2325-0000 UT on Nov 26. Nice mix of
Afropops and reggae; occasional comment by M ancr in Fr; closing anmt and
NA at 2359; off at 0000 UT. Pretty good signal with a bit of splatter from
5025 (Cuba).
5030 RTB Ouagadougou, at 0605-0632 UT on Nov 18, program in French,
consisting mostly of African high-life music and songs, 0622 UT seemed to
change to a type of African rap song, ballad, etc. The timing for this was
perfect, as their sunrise was at 0606 UT. Reception would have been fair
to good, except for a problem with local noise. QRM R Rebelde.
CHINA 12260 Firedrake music noted also today on Dec 1st, noted 0800-
1000 UT slot. Fundamental, or 2 x 6130 ??
(wb, wwdxc BC-DX Dec 1)
Re 21900 Firedrake being harmonic of 7300 against Sound of Hope So that's
where 21900, comes from. Ran into it after the new season started, and
it's quite good at times, very regular in Adelaide South Australia,
thought it was a fundamental. Will have a look at it; 21MHz broadcast band
has been quite poor lately, many days when not even carriers are noted on
the band, bounced back today November 29, strong signals, around 0700z or
so. 18180 was off for awhile, but has made a comeback lately.
(Dave Vitek, harmonics yg via dxld Nov 30)
Noted also on 16750 kHz, Firedrake music, Nov 29 at 0915 UT, S=5 to 8,
jumps deep fading.
