DXLD 7-082, "gives a revised tentative schedule for V. of Tajik (ex-R.
Tajikistan), all on 1143 and 7245 from Dushanbe rather than the variety of
frequencies registered and just rementioned in DXLD. Includes English at
0900-1100 CAs/SAs and 1730-1800 CAs/ME. Anyone hear these?" A Russian DXer
(via open_DX yg) checked on 7245 yesterday at 1745 and heard local
popmusic, with a short announcement in a "Persian" language at 1754 and ID
"Ovozi Tojik" at 1757 UT, at 1759 the tx switched off. There was no
programming in English.
(Bernd Trutenau-LTU, dxld July 18)
Yesterday July 17, a Finnish DXer (me!) checked it at 1728 and heard
English. So the programme starts earlier now, maybe 1715 UT. What is heard
at the end, may be a closing announcement for the day in Tajik. But the
schedule still seems to be unsettled: in the beginning of June English was
heard at 1600. The other English transmission has been heard 0900-1000,
not -1100.
UKRAINE 657, 1930-, Radio Ukraine International on June 30. There are
barely any MW transmitters left in Ukraine. During the day, the band is
practically empty. Chernivtsi, in the Carpathian mountains in the west of
the country still has a 25 kW transmitter used for both RUI programming to
Romania and for local programming. At 1930 UT, the local program switched
to RUI's IS, Ukrainian ID, and then into the Romanian 30 min. program.
Fair to good.
The next part of the journey involved driving into the lovely Carpathian
Mountains. This was the quietest RF area of my travels. If you've never
experienced low (no) RF, than it's a real treat.....No noise between
channels at all. One assumes that there is a technical glitch, but there
isn't ... provides incredibly good S/N ratios. No wonder our grandparents
and great grandparents routinely heard trans-Oceanic stations without a
lot of difficulty.
[former USSR] Antenna array. Fellas, what do you make of this antenna
array located at 49 35 40.58 N and 23 58 06.42 E in an area south of Lviv
in Ukraine. Supposedly was a military establishment, but no longer in
service. Quite an interesting array very well visualized with Google
Earth. I immediately considered this to be a woodpecker receiving site.
Any other guesses? (My theory has not been verified by google searches on
the woodpecker in Ukraine, though).
Folks, Mika Makelainen has kindly posted the final version of my article
entlitled, "A Renewed Interest in DXing" regarding my recent trip to
Europe, with a Kaito 1103 in tow. The article and photos can be viewed at
the dxing.info website:

There's also a copy of the same at
At the latter site, I'll also be posting some audio clips of some of the
more interesting dx. Enjoy!
UK I noticed that the BBC signal on Longwave 198 kHz was very weak here
in the Netherlands at 1700 UT. Re-checking at 2030 UT, the situation is
the same. BBC Reception Advice on the Web says that Radio 5 mediumwave
[693 kHz] and Radio 4 longwave from Droitwich suffered a "failure" at 1408
UT. This must be a power failure or an antenna failure, since it affects
two different transmitters. 198 kHz was carrying cricket commentary today
instead of regular programmes. For the latter part of the day, cricket
fans without access to the Radio 5 Live Sports Extra digital service will
