CHAD Aug 16 was checking for distorted Tchad on approximately 7257 but
no trace of it at 1825 UT. Instead there was a station under Croatia on
6165 with what sounds like a similar program Tchad used to have
(modulation OK). Worth to check if Tchad is back home again or is this
some other station. Distorted signal around 7257 was still audible a day
or two ago.
CHINA 9745 Voice of Han logged Aug 12 at 2100-2200 UT starting with ID,
news and then several talks in Chinese by YL and OM announcers,
interspersed with several songs. I was looking for Bahrain but this was
the only one heard !!!
17630 Afro Pop Station or Africa #1 at 1520-1559* UT on Aug 11 fair,
sometimes peaking to good with what sounded like a live concert of rap
music; lyrics in both French and English; stage chatter in both French and
English; announcer said that this concert was coming from Nigeria; program
shifted to studio talk in French alone at 1529 to 1534 UT; no ID heard at
BOH; back to recorded music, not the live concert; off at 1559 as per
Africa #1 schedule.
The Afro Pop jammer has hovered between 17660 and near 17630 at various
times. The current issue of WDXC Contact magazine has 17630 as Africa #1
but other sources continue to report Afro Pop Jammer right around 17630.
Unlike usual Africa #1 programs in the past, there was no ID at BOH or
anywhere else. However, this was a program not just endless music.
(Jim Ronda-OK-USA, DXplorer Aug 12)
I have checked the situation from here yesterday 14 Aug, and can confirm
that 17630 is definitely Africa No. 1. I have noted them from around 09h00
tune-in to 10h30 s/off (as scheduled). They did not s/on at 11h00 as
scheduled, but rather around 11h30 UT. Then they stayed on with a pretty
good signal until the presumed s/off at 16h00 (the signal basically faded
away after 15h00) UT. The Afro Pop Jammer noted on 17660 from around 12h00
till past 15h00 when it again faded away.
Interestingly enough, the signal was quite a bit stronger than 17630 kHz.
The V.of Hope was not heard on 17660 (i.e. complete silence on the channel
