Article 66:<br />

1. The driver of an automobile or a motor tricycle or motor quadricycle must occupy a sitting<br />

place of which the width can not be inferior to 0.55 m<strong>et</strong>res.<br />

The driver of one of the vehicles referred to in the preceding paragraph can l<strong>et</strong> other persons sit<br />

next to him only when each of them occupies a sitting place of at least 0.40 m<strong>et</strong>res of width.<br />

2. It is forbid<strong>de</strong>n to carry on the seat of a vehicle a number of persons higher than the number<br />

fixed by the buil<strong>de</strong>r of the vehicle.<br />

3. It is forbid<strong>de</strong>n to carry children of less than 12 years of age on the front seat of an automobile<br />

vehicle when other seats are avallable in the car.<br />

4. It is forbid<strong>de</strong>n for the driver of one of the vehicles referred to in the first paragraph to carry<br />

persons on the exterior parts of the body of that vehicle or of its traller.<br />

5. A bicycle, a mobyl<strong>et</strong>te and a motor bicycle can not carry a number of persons higher than that<br />

for which the seats have been ma<strong>de</strong>.<br />

6. Provisions of paragraph 5 are applicable to tricycles and quadricycles, with or without an<br />

engine when not provi<strong>de</strong>d with a driving cabin.<br />

b) However, the driver can allow one or many persons according to possibilities, provi<strong>de</strong>d that<br />

no risk of acci<strong>de</strong>nt is created and that in any circumstances security of the passengers carried is<br />

ensured, to occupy the part of the vehicle used for the transport of things.<br />

c) The above prohibition is not applicable to drivers of vehicles used by services of the Armed<br />

Forces or Police; or by services of fire briga<strong>de</strong> or of roads cleaning.<br />

Chapter 3. MAXIMUM WEIGHTS AUTHORISED.<br />

Article 67:<br />

1. A) In urban areas as well as on national roads d<strong>et</strong>ermined by the Minister having transports in<br />

his duties, the maximum weights authorised by vehicle or train of vehicles are fixed as follows:<br />

the maximal axle load authorised per four wheel axle will be:<br />

- by single axle : 10 tonnes;<br />

- by tan<strong>de</strong>m axle: 16 tonnes;<br />

- For triple axle : 24 tonnes; the maximum load weight for any lorry shall in no case exceed -53<br />

tonnes. ( EAC has adopted 56 tones) (to be amen<strong>de</strong>d)<br />

B) On the other roads as d<strong>et</strong>ermined by the Minister having transports in his duties, the<br />

maximum weights authorised by vehicle or train of vehicles are fixed as follows:<br />

a) two axle vehicle, semi-trallers except : 12 tonnes;<br />

b) three and more axle vehicles excepting semi-trallers: 16 tonnes;<br />

c) articulated vehicles:<br />

- with three axles: 12 tonnes;
