INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY FOR THE STUDY OF HARMFUL ALGAE12 th <strong>International</strong> <strong>Conference</strong> on Harmful Algae, Copenhagen, Denmark, 4-8 September 2006summer. Among the Dinophysiscells, some individuals weremorphologically similar to D.acuminata, D. sacculus, D. acutaand D. caudata. At the beginning ofAugust 2004, Dinophysis spp. werefound at Sidi Moussa Lagoon(Atlantic water) with a high density(1.3 10 3cells/l), but DSP was not detectedon the analysed clams. However, inopen sea areas (Jemaa ouledGhanem and Cap Beddouza) highlevels of DSP were found in Mytilusgalloprovincialis during the summerof 2005, although Dinophysis spp.was present at lower density.During the monitoring program, thespatial distribution of Dinophysisspp. was not homogeneous, andcontamination by DSP can occurwith very low density of Dinophysis, causing the closing of productionzones.PO.06-09Follow up of an autumn bloom ofDinophysis acuta in NW Iberia:along-shore transport versus insitu growth.Session: PO.06 - Population dynamicsL Escalera Moura 1 , B RegueraRamirez 1 , T Moita 2 , Y Pazos 3 , AMoroño 3 , M Cerejo 2 , M Ruiz-Villareal 4 ,JM Cabanas 11 Instuto Español de Oceanografía, VIGO,Spain2 INIAP, LISBON, Portugal3 INTECMAR, VILAGARCÍA DE AROUSA,Spain4 C.O. de A Coruña (IEO), A CORUÑA,SpainPrevious observations onmesoscale dynamics of Dinophysisacuta in NW Iberian waters suggestthat Aveiro functions as the'epicentre' for initiation (May-June)of D. acuta blooms. A northwardsshift of the cell maximum duringautumn blooms was interpreted asa predominance of physicaladvection of cells and/or conditionsfavouring dinoflagellates growthduring the transition from upwellingto winter conditions. Recordconcentrations of D. acuta (140,10 3cells/L) were observed off Aveirobetween August and November2005. In Galicia, September-midOctober estimates indicated goodin situ growth (µmin = 0.22 d -1 ), lowcell densities ( 17 · 10 3 cells/L inintegrated hose-samples) wereobserved in early Novembertogether with negligible divisionrates (< 0.1 d -1 ) and high (up to 0.60d -1 ) net growth. Analyses of spatiotemporalvariability in cell numbers,in situ division rates, SST images,current-velocity measurements andphysical-model simulations supportthe view that in early November2005, the shift of Dinophysismaxima from Portugal to Galiciawas the result of a northwardsphysical transport.PO.07-13A fuzzy logic model forAlexandrium minutumproliferations in harbours of theCatalan coast (NWMediterranean)Session: PO.07 - Ecology andoceanographyM Estrada 1 , L Arin 2 , D Blasco 2 , ANBlauw 3 , J Camp 2 , E Garcés 4 , NSampedro 2 , M Vila 21 Institut de Ciències del Mar, CMIMA (CSI,BARCELONA, Spain2 Institut de Ciències del Mar (CSIC),BARCELONA, Spain3 Delft Hydraulics, DELFT, The Netherlands169
