ManyHABs occurred in the northernregi<strong>on</strong>, and two high frequent areaswere off the Pearl River and theManila Bay. Relatively, HABsoccurred frequently during March-May in the northern regi<strong>on</strong> and inJuly in the western regi<strong>on</strong>. Ascausative species Noctilucascintillans dominated in the northernregi<strong>on</strong>, and Pyrodinium bahamensein both eastern and southernregi<strong>on</strong>s. Pyrodinium bahamenseand Noctiluca scintillans were thedominating species during 1980-2003, but more Phaeocystis cfglobosa and Alexandrium spblooms occurred 1991-2003. Thosevariati<strong>on</strong>s are related to regi<strong>on</strong>alocean envir<strong>on</strong>ments, such asreversed m<strong>on</strong>so<strong>on</strong> winds, riverdischarges, and upwelling, and alsoaffected by local c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>s, such aseutrophicati<strong>on</strong> off the Peal Riverand in the Manila Bay.PO.13-42Dynamics of harmful algalblooms in the Ukrainian coastalBlack SeaSessi<strong>on</strong>: PO.13 - Regi<strong>on</strong>al eventsLudmila Terenko, Galyna TerenkoOdessa Branch of the Institute of Biology,ODESSA, UkraineDuring the last 10 years (1995–2005), 62 cases of microalgalblooms have been menti<strong>on</strong>ed in theUkrainian coastal Black Sea.Basic main features of microalgalblooms in the Ukrainian Black Seaare:– The number of microalgal speciesthat produce blooms has increased(in the 1960s – 14, in 70-80s – 24,and in the 90s – 37 species);– Blooms of Skelet<strong>on</strong>ema costatumare frequent (15 cases) at allseas<strong>on</strong>s, which indicate high levelsof eutrophicati<strong>on</strong>.
