INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY FOR THE STUDY OF HARMFUL ALGAE12 th <strong>International</strong> <strong>Conference</strong> on Harmful Algae, Copenhagen, Denmark, 4-8 September 2006blooms. The dominantphytoplankton species in thereservoirs, Microcystis aeruginosaKütz. emend. Elenk., showed asignificant increase of growth afterthe passage. However otherdominant phytoplankton species inthe reservoirs, Anabaena flosaquae(Lyngb.) Breb. andAphanizomenon flos-aquae (L.)Ralfs, were not stimulated by thegut passage. Our resultsdemonstrated that when M.aeruginosa was dominant, theeffects of crucian and silver carp onincrease of summer blue-greenalgal bloom could be significant.PO.15-01Monitoring for harmful planktonblue-green algae in smallSiberian reservoirsSession: PO.15 - MonitoringOV Kolmakova 1 , EA Ivanova 2 , ESKravchuk 31 Krasnoyarsk State University,KRASNOYARSK, Russia2 Krasnoyarsk State Agricultural Universit,KRASNOYARSK, Russia3 Institute of Biophysics of SB of RAS,KRASNOYARSK, RussiaResults of summer toxic bloommonitoring in small reservoirs ofKrasnoyarsk region (Siberia,Russia) – Bugach, Bereshskoe,Vetluzhanka - were analyzed.Investigations were conductedduring the period of open water in2003-2005. Water blooms in thesereservoirs were caused by harmfulblue-green algae and had twopeaks. The first peak (June-July)was dominated by massdevelopment of Aphanizomenonflos-aquae (L.) Ralfs and Anabaenaflos-aquae (Lyngb.) Breb. Thesecond peak (August-September) –by Microcystis aeruginosa Kütz.emend. Elenk. The biomass of bluegreenalgae reached 200 mg/lduring the period of bloom. Themost important part of research wasdevelopment of practical measuresdirected at the prevention of harmfulblue-green algae massdevelopment in these reservoirs.Complex 'top-down' and 'bottom-up'biomanipulation should beconducted for prevention of thewater bloom. Levels of sedimentsand phosphorus in the water, thenumber of planktivorous fish needto be reduced, th hypolimnionaerated, and a coastal woodyvegetation must be planted.PO.13-56Seasonal dynamics of harmfulalgae and their amino acids intwo small Siberian reservoirsSession: PO.13 - Regional eventsAA Kolmakova, GS Kalachova, EAIvanovaInstitute of Biophysics of SB of RAS,KRASNOYARSK, RussiaA comparison of the dynamics ofharmful algal biomass and totalamino acid composition was madefor two small Siberian reservoirs. The only factor that significantlychanged the percentages of aminoacids in water was the bloom ofCyanophyta in the 'blooming' waterbody. During the bloom of harmfulCyanophyta, the absolute andrelative content of leucine-glutaminegroup increased, while theconcentrations of other acidsgenerally dropped. Before and afterthe bloom, no significant variation inthe total amino acid compositionwas recorded. In the reservoir, where harmful Cyanophyta didn'tdominate, no significant variations inamino acid composition wererecorded during the season.207
