Abstract: ABET calls on eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g educators to help students become lifelong<br />

learners, and challenges educators to demonstrate their effectiveness at do<strong>in</strong>g<br />

so. Alumni surveys are typically used to measure lifelong learn<strong>in</strong>g; however,<br />

alumni surveys don’t provide <strong>in</strong>formation on which learn<strong>in</strong>g experiences lead to<br />

the development of the strategic skills demonstrated by lifelong learners.<br />

Educators need a more nuanced understand<strong>in</strong>g of the effects of specific<br />

classroom designs and practices on the process of lifelong learn<strong>in</strong>g skill<br />

development to better gauge their effectiveness at promot<strong>in</strong>g such skills. The<br />

present study attempts to characterize the attitudes and skills of develop<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Proceed<strong>in</strong>gs of <strong>Research</strong> <strong>in</strong> Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g <strong>Education</strong> <strong>Symposium</strong> <strong>2011</strong><br />
