Atilla Tuzman noted that following the
Gulf War PKK separatists had settled
in the Kh~urk, Mezi, Shiri, Shinat and

Tuzman also said 200 terrorists had been

PKK targets in northern Iraq over the
past week. He said Turkish jets had
bombed a PKK camp in the Khakurk
area where there were approximately
400-500 militants. Safeen Dizayee, a
representative of the Kurdistan Democrat
Party (KOP) in Ankara, said Turkish
jets had on Thursday attacked another
PKK base in the Shive area.
"We had already told them that from
the time it was apparent that Zaleh
camp had become a PKK base, it had
also become a target for us," Dizayee
said.
Turkey and the Ira~i Kurds both want
to prevent PKK rriihtants from returning
to the mountains on the Iraqi-Turkish
border to launch attacks into Turkish
territory.

Cinquante chasseurs-bombardiers et cinq hélicoptères turcs ont
effectué hier matin le plus important raid aérien - «depuis dix
ans », selon Ankara -, vendredi matin, contre un camp de Kurdes
de Turquie, à laleh, en territoire irakien. Par vagues SUCcessIVes de
quatre appareils, l'aviation turque a largué, selon un communiqué
officiel, 132 bombes, parmi lesquelles des bombes à fragmentation,
particulièrement meurtrières. Comme à son habitude, le régime de
M"" Ciller a affirmé que cette attaque était dirigée contre un camp
abritant « 1.600 terroristes du PKK », le Parti des travailleurs du
Kurdistan. Dans le communiqué de « victoire» d'Ankara, il est

autre raid avait fait 200 morts parmi les réfugiés kurdes turcs à

Kurdish leader banished Jrom Paris

PARIS- The head of the Kurdish
Information Centre in Paris, Gulabi
Azad Oere, said on Thursday he
had been banished to a small village
in southern France.
Dere told Reuters by telephone
he was detained outside his office a
week ago, taken to a hotel in Saint-
Juery near Albi, and ordered not to
move from the area until further
notice.
Under French law, foreigners can
be restricted to a specific area of
the country if their activities are
deemed a threat to public order.
Officials at the Interior Ministry
and the regional government offic~
were not immediately available for
comment. France last November
banned two Kurdish groups it said
were front organisations for the
Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK)
which fights for independence in
southeastern Turkey.
French police also rounded up
more than 100 Kurdish activists accused
of planning terrorist actions.

still detained while a further eigh
