Evacuated and torched villages
On .Jan. 1, five villages in the Kulp district of
Dlyarbalm were evacuated because of state
pressure. Geliya Necika and Nedera (Alaca)
Iq the district ~f Kulp; Girnik township; ~e
village of Gehye Hune and Pirej township
were all evacuated following pressure from security
for~es.
Un Jan. 1, the villa!!ers of Avetax and Unsus in
Bitlis' Tatvan district ev.acuated their homes following
the bombing of their villages and pressure by security
forces.. .
. On Jan ..2, state security forces and village guards
p:es~ur~d villagers of the Cudi section of ~lrnäk's Cizre
dlstnct in an attempt to evacuate them. It was reported
that the inhabitants be!!an to settle in other sections of
the village because of s.uchpressure.
On Jan. 6, security forces raided, for the second
time, the village of Girdikan (Cevrirntepe) in Siirt's
Baykan district. About 200 soldiers, a special military
crack team and village guards from Siirt and Baykan
burned the villagers' han'est and afterward set fire to
the houses in the villages of Hasan Apak, Emir Tuncay,
Ahmet Parlakucep. Abdullah Tan. Sa1ih Tu~rul and
Abdurrahrnan Tunus. .
On Jan. 6, it was reported that the villages of
Ker~war (Demi~bo~az), B~ne, Eziica Geliosman and
Goyma Kergon in tne provl~ce of ~Irnak and the yUlages
of Ta~konak (Slkefl1ya), Payamii (Deravll),
Meydana Sele of the province of Siirt had been torcheq
and more than 1,000 villagers had been evacuated. If
was also revealed that Hüsnü YIlmaz from the village
of Ta~konak, Mümtaz Kaçar from Bane and M. Sait!
Timurta~ from Sele had been killed by security forces...
O~ Jan. 9, three villages in Lice - ~i~e (Yolçatl),
Banutne (Kutlj.i) and Derxust (Dibek) - were burned
down for the third time in a raid organized by state
forces.
qn Jan. 9, in the villages of Bizgure (Güventepe)
T~la,t.(De~erli)...S~.renkaya (PI~arba~I), Cal~ (Çahköy):
Cinatamu.C)e(Buyukkarde~), Cmat?uso (Kuçükkarde~)
and Çabilgrave (Kuyular), all In the province of
Mardin,were burned down by state forces. It was discovered
that of these villages, Serenkaya and Çahkoyu
had been previously torched.
On Jan. 12, soldiers burned down 15 houses in the
village of Alma? in the di-rrict of Lice
On Jan, 14, security. forces, from military helicopters,
destroyed the Village of Wank in the province.
on Bitlis, decimating at least 45 houses. However,
because the village fiad been evacuated prior to the
attack, there were no casualties reported.
On J~n. 16, soldiers raided the village of Ergül in
the provmce of Diyarbakir for the third time, destroying
several house.sas well a nearby gasoline station.
On Jan.16, the villa!!e of Glrdikan (Çevrimtepe) in
the province of Siirt was raided for the third time by
state .forces, this time leaving not even one building
standinj:.. .
On Jan. 19, commandos carried out an operation in
the village of Xirabsork in the province of Van, looting
. houses and taking many villagers into custody.
On Jan. 23, state forces raided the villaae of
Qerepingal in the province of Mu~ (Karapmar) and
burne~ down two nearby hamlets.
On Jan.'26, in the village of AClkh in the province
of Diyarbakir, gendarme forces burned down many
ho~ses ..Reportedly, in response to villagers efforts to
extmgulsh the flames, the state forces together with vil-
. lage guards, proceeded to burn down 10 more.

Alain Calles, du MRAP, a
rappelé les objectifs du collectif
: libération des 14 Kurdes
encore en prison, levée des me-
.naces d'expulsion pesant sur
plusieurs autres assignés à résidence
et respect du droit d'association,
ce qui suppose la levée
de l'interdiction des associations -
culturelles kurdes. Il s'est indigné
du fait que la police française
ait communiqué à la Turquie
des informations sur des
personnes bénéficiant de la protection
due à tout réfugié politique.
Pour M' De Felice, qui défend
les 14 prisonniers kurdes :
« Cette affaire est un scandale
absolu, les dossiers sont vides.
C'est une manipulation et un
déshonneur pour la France qui
assure ainsi le service aprèsvente
de ses contrats d'armes
avec Ankara. » Il a parlé de la
grande détresse dans laquelle se
trouvent les Kurdes emprisonnés,
dont certains n'ont été
connus que plusieurs semaines
après leur arrestation, alors
qu'ils avaient déjà été condam- .
nés. Il a annoncé que l'abbé
Pierre avait, le jour même. apporté
son soutien au collectif.
