MUZI, Joyce Luciane Correia. From The Learning School to the University of
Technology: unveiling women's participation in the construction of the professional
education history. 2011. Thesis (Master of Technology) - Postgraduate Program in
Technology, Federal Technological University of Paraná, 2011.
The objective of this research is to analyze the participation of women in building the
history of professional education, in particular the construction of the history of the
Federal Technological University of Parana. We intend to verify areas in which
women worked and what their current participation in scientific-technological
research in the institution. From the analysis of bibliographic materials, and using
quantitative data, this research is characterized by historical standards, with
emphasis on qualitative approach. It was identified during the data collection that the
institution has gone through four phases, chronologically divided: the first one, which
runs from the opening of School until about 1937 when the School became an
Industrial High School; in that moment there were few women because there were
few areas of expertise. In the second phase, from 1937 at about 1970, although
fewer in number than men, the School gave women the opportunity to act in other
activities as the primary level had been closed, this fact gave them more visibility.
The third phase, which changed Industrial High School in Cefet in the 1970s until
2005, due to expansion, it was allowed the female engagement at undergraduate
and postgraduate level. The fourth and final phase begins in 2005 when, after
processing in University, new possibilities of action are recognized regarding the
issue of scientific and technological production. The main findings of the four stages
indicate that women remain outnumbered in relation to men, and that UTFPR keeps
most women in some areas of knowledge traditionally assigned to them within the
institution, such as the Industrial Design area, or in areas related to care and support,
demonstrating that sexual division of labor is remained and it segregates and ranks
the work.
