“Bir fincan kahvenin kırk yıl hatırı vardır” atasözü aslında
pek çok şeyi aydınlatmaya yeterlidir. Böylece insanlar arasında
yaygın bir güven ve iyi niyet ağı kurulmakta, toplumsal
huzur ve barış inşa edilmektedir. 1793 tarihinde
İstanbul’a gönderilen bir Rus sefaret heyetinden adı zikredilmeyen
bir kişinin yazdığı kitapta Türklerin ikramda
bulunması ve hatır sayması hakkında ilgi çekici cümleler
vardır:“Bütün gezintilerimde Türklerin hatırşinaslıklarıyla
lûtufkârlıklarını gösteren bir çok vaziyetlerle karşılaştım.
Şâhid olduğum muhtelif deliller beni bu milletin iyi
kalpli ve insanı minnetdâr edecek hareketlere pek meyyal
olduğuna ve tenkid edilen tenbelliğiyle gevşekliğinin de
iklim tesirinden mütevellit bulunduğuna ikna etmiş oldu.
Türk, tahkir edildiği ve kıskançlık hisleri tahrik olunduğu
zaman müdhiş hir mahlûk olur; galeyanına sebeb olan
hiddetin yegâne teskin çâresini düşmanın kanında bulur,
İstanbul civarındaki gezintilerimde ben hep bu milletin
lûtufkârlığıyla müsâfirperverlik aşkına şâhid oldum. Rastgeldiğim
hangi Türk’e yol sorsam, hemen bana rehberlik
etmek teklifinde bulunuyor, yiyecek ve içecek şeyler hususunda
elinden gelen ikramda kusur etmemek suretiyle de
hep ayni kibarlığı gösteriyordu.”
İkramın, yani verme ve paylaşma duygusunun uygulamaya
dökülüşünün en yoğun görüldüğü ortamların başında
özel günler ve bayramlar gelmektedir. Hayatın her anında,
özellikle de hayatın geçiş aşamaları olan doğum, düğün
ve ölüm geleneklerinde ikramda bulunmak halen yaşayan

his kindness by having great respect for me without fail, regarding
a food and drink.”
Special occasions and festivals are at the forefront of the occasions
where the feeling of offering, or giving and sharing are most intensely
practiced. In every moment of life, especially in the traditions of
birth, wedding and death which are the transition stages of life,
the treating is among our current customs. In Western Anatolia,
the practice of “Hidrellez (spring festival)” and also called “village
barn” is nothing more than the daily reflection of the toy tradition.
Among the days of offering, hollynights have a separate places, especially
the kandil simidi (ring shaped pastry consumed in holy days)
has an important part in everyone’s childhood memories. Offering
ashura (The Noah’s Pudding) in the month of Muharrem is also
