complete the first two years of a baccalaureate degree.<br />

To broaden the opportunities for training in health care professions, the college joined with<br />

Frederick and Howard Community Colleges to create the Mid-<strong>Maryland</strong> Allied Healthcare<br />

Education Consortium. Carroll students may pursue credentials in Cardiovascular Technology,<br />

Emergency Medical Services, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Respiratory Therapy, and Surgical<br />

Technician through the consortium. Through a partnership with Hagerstown Community<br />

College, students may also pursue the A.A.S. degree in Radiography. The college also offers an<br />

Associate of Arts transfer track in Radiography articulated with the Johns Hopkins Hospital<br />

Radiologic Technology program.<br />

In addition to its degree-credit programs, the college supports economic development through<br />

open-enrollment continuing education workforce training courses and the provision of business<br />

training and services under contract. During FY<strong>2009</strong>, the Business Training Group adopted a<br />

new set of marketing materials to better promote its products and services to local businesses and<br />

organizations.<br />

During FY<strong>2009</strong>, the Miller Small Business Resource Center, which has provided mentoring,<br />

access to technology, networking opportunities, and seminars and workshops to small businesses<br />

in the county since FY2003, completed its transition into the Miller Entrepreneurial Institute<br />

(MEI). The MEI will continue to provide these resources to growing businesses, plus<br />

collaborative credit and noncredit instructional offerings with a special emphasis on assistance to<br />

new business ventures.<br />

COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND IMPACT<br />

Carroll Community College is committed to serving its key constituencies by partnering with the<br />

Carroll County Public Schools, supporting Carroll County’s economic and workforce<br />

development through training and services, being accessible to the community through a variety<br />

learning opportunities, and presenting cultural and performing arts events. The college’s<br />

commitment to serving the community is exemplified by one of the president’s fiscal year 2010<br />

strategic initiatives (II-3): Partner with community organizations to develop and enhance cultural<br />

and personal enrichment opportunities for students and the community.<br />

Economic and Workforce Development<br />

The Business Training Group (BTG), a component of Continuing Education and Training,<br />

provides businesses with career, professional and personal growth learning opportunities. The<br />

BTG assists businesses with training assessment and consulting services for new or updated<br />

occupational skills, or professional and career development. Over the past year, the BTG<br />

developed many new courses for business, both on-line and classroom-based to serve specific<br />

business needs, including Lean programming for manufacturers. The relationship with the<br />

Carroll County Business and Employment Resource Center (BERC) has been expanded to<br />

provide additional training opportunities for the growing number of dislocated and unemployed<br />

workers. This agency is a long-term partner with the college and the college has provided a<br />
